You were walking home from school on a crisp fall afternoon, your partner walked by your side. You always had to pass through a quiet little suburban neighborhood in Washington. You two passed by a house on the other side of the street with the garage door open. The garage was empty, until a fluorescent green light filled the room. Two people had just fallen through the wall. You quickly recognized the two people as your classmate Morty Smith and his grandfather, Rick, who you'd seen at school sometimes. You always thought Rick was a little weird, but you never expected something like that to happened.
"What are you looking at?" Your partner turned and asked.
You looked at them, then looked at the garage again. The green glow was gone.
"Nothing. Let's go." You began walking past them.
Your partner looked back at the garage. "Hey, it's Morty! Hi Morty!" They waved. Morty waved back from the other side of the street. Your partner looked around, noticing you were far ahead. "Hey! Wait for me!" They exclaimed and began running after you.For hours, you were huddled up in your room trying to figure out what the hell that was. The only way to find out, you decided, is to get close to Morty. Quickly, you picked up your phone and texted all of your friends.
"Hey, Morty." You smiled as you walked up to Morty.
"Oh! H-hi. You're {SO's/N} partner, r-right?" He stammered.
"Yeah, that's me. I was wondering if you wanted to come to a party I'm throwing. It's at my house at 8 pm tonight." You said, leaning against the lockers.
"Aw geez... I-I-I dunno... My grandpa and I already had p-plans tonight..." Morty sighed as he rubbed the back of his neck nervously. Shit, you thought, time to bring out the big guns.
"Jessica is going to be there." You smirked.
Morty blinked. "L-like... redhead Jessica?"
You crossed your arms. "That's the one."
Morty paused for a moment to think. "Um... I-I'll talk to my grandpa about it."
"Great!" You handed Morty a slip of paper as you began to walk away. "Here's my number. Text me when you find out."
The final bell rung out, and you walked out of the building. Morty closed his locker and left.Incoming message from:

MORTY SMITH is now offlineAt 8, people began to file into your house, one after another. There was no sign of Morty. Jessica came at around 8:10. Apparently, people invited other people, and those people invited more people, so it was less house party than rave. Booze, weed, strippers, the whole shebang. In the crowd, you spotted Morty in the corner of the dining room. He was tapping his foot to the music with a plate full of Cheetos in one hand and a cup in the other hand. He looked really uncomfortable. You walked over to him.
"Having fun?" You asked.
"What!?" Morty tried to shout over the music. You sighed and gestured for Morty to follow you. The two of you walked up the stairs and went to a heavily locked door. You took out a key ring from your pocket. You used the many keys to open the locks that kept you from getting into the room.
"W-what's in there?" Morty asked. You opened the door. Inside was the master bedroom, filled with every expensive, breakable, or medicinal object in the house.
"I can trust you not to steal anything, right?" You glanced at Morty out of the corner of your eye.
"O-of course you can!" He said. You two walked into the room. You locked the door behind you.
"Gotta have precautions when you throw a party like this." You said as you sat on the bed. "Take a seat."
Morty sat next to you and sighed. "I have s-such a headache..."
You grabbed a bottle of Tylenol from a box on the floor and handed it to him. He took two pulls out of the bottle and lifted the cup to his lips. You quickly grab the cup from him. "Don't drink that," you say, opening the window and emptying the cup outside, "someone pissed in the punch bowl." You looked out the window at the rustling bushes below. "Stop fucking in my garden! There's poison ivy in there!" You shouted and closed the window. You made your way back to your bed and sat down. You grabbed two champagne glasses and a bottle of sparkling apple cider. You popped the top and poured the cider into the glasses. You handed Morty one. He smiled and took the pills.
You sip your cider. "Sorry about this whole thing. I just wanted to throw a little party and have a little fun with friends, but--"
"Wait... you think I'm your... f-friend?" Morty's eyes lit up.
"Well... yeah."
"Really?"
"Really."
"Th-that... m-means a lot coming from a person like y-you."
"What's so special about me?"
"I... don't know, but there's s-something... I can feel it."
"Oh shit, did I give you the wrong pills?!"
"W-what?!?!?!"
"I'm just kidding! You're fine!"
"Aw geez... thank god..."
"Sorry for scaring you, Morty."
"I-it's okay."
