Hi again.
So this song is another Muse song from the Absolution album. This one is called Ruled by Secrecy. When I heard this song, I thought that this could be the main character's For the Damaged Coda. I thought this chapter would be the best one to put this song in. I hope you enjoy!
(Ps, if you get a lot of notifications for this chapter or no notification at all, I'm sorry. Wattpad/my internet has been exceptionally terrible lately, so we'll all have to just deal with it for now.)

You know exactly where you are. The silent streets are dark, only the faint glows of street lamps lighting the way. You walk down the familiar road, smiling at each and every home. The one unnerving thing is the gratuitous amount of missing posters bearing your name and freshman yearbook picture on every tree, lamppost, and fence.

Wow...
Guess people did notice you were gone.

You walk at a leisurely pace, but you stop when you see the end of the cul-de-sac. When the house you're looking for is in sight, you begin running down the middle of the road.
You run up the steps of the front porch, shaking nervously.

Do you think they'll remember you?
Even after sixteen years?
I hope they do...
But you know that they can't know about any of this.
You know exactly what to do.

Though hesitant at first, you ring the doorbell.
The door slowly swings open, revealing a different, yet familiar, tired face. You smile brightly and wave.
"Hi, honey. I'm home."
When they see you, the gasp and grip the doorframe in shock. They stare at you, mouth agape and eyes wide. They start laughing hysterically as they hug you tightly, causing you both to fall backwards onto the lawn below. Your partner begins kissing you all over your face, crying tears of pure joy. You laugh and hold onto their waist.
"{Y/N}!!" They sob. "Y-y-you're alive!! I-i-it's been s-sixteen years... Where were you!?"
You lift your partner's face to yours, their tear-soaked cheek resting in the palm of your gloved hand.
"{SO's/N}..." you sigh, tears falling from your eyes, "I have so much to tell you. You might not believe it all and you might think I'm insane, but I promise you that it's all true..."

You finish telling your partner about everything, leaving you both in tears by the end of it. Your partner hated to hear the things that happened to you, and you hated to retell and relive the experiences. Your partner also had to explain that they weren't married to Jessica and the for the past sixteen years, they've been fighting off a seemingly endless suicidal depression while looking for you ever since you went missing, even when your family stopped looking for you after only two years. They were the one who made and put up all those missing posters.
"I knew you were the only one in the world crazy enough to do that for me," you joke. "By the way... where is my family?"
Your partner flinches. They hold your hands tightly in theirs. "{Y/N}... they're dead... They died in a car crash five years ago."
Your heart sinks into the pit of your stomach. You clutch your partner's hands, but you don't cry. You're so numbed to death, you don't even cry when you hear that your own family, the people who cared for you and raised you since you were an infant, are dead and you never knew. You sigh and throw your arms around your partner, holding them tightly. They rest their chin on your shoulder, hugging you back.
"{SO's/N}..." you whisper, voice wavering.
"Yes...?" Your parter whispers back.
"...I'm so sorry..."
Your partner tenses up in your arms. Warm blood spills onto the back of your jacket as they gag and cough in shock. You clutch them tighter as you twist your pocket knife deeper into the back of their neck. You hush them while laying their dying body onto the grass and dislodging the blade. Deep red blood gushes from their mouth and throat. Silently, you stare at the terrified expression and glassy eyes of the person you used to love. You scoop up their limp body in your arms and walk to their backyard. You grab a shovel from the garden shed and dig a shallow grave in the lawn, throwing the body and the murder weapon in. You seamlessly fill the hole. You reach into your jacket and pull out your portal gun, opening a portal in front of you and stepping in.
Walking into your office, you take off your blood soaked jacket and hang it on your doorknob. You tighten your crimson tie and sit in your chair, locking your portal gun in your desk drawer. You click the call button on your intercom.
"Reschedule my conference from 8:30 to 6:30," you say, "and I need my dry cleaning picked up by five."
"President {L/N}, a police officer is asking to speak with you." The voice speaks back.
"Send him up," you reply.
After a few seconds, you answer a knock at the door. A Rick wearing a police uniform runs into your office in a panic. You instantly recognize him.
"Delta-196! What's the matter?" You stand up.
"What dimension did you say you were from again?" Rick asks.
"C-782. Why?"
"Oh shit... T-the Morty we have in prison right now is from C-340..."
"You got the wrong Morty!? H-h-how long did you you know!?"
"I-I came here as soon as I found out."

[WARNING: SHARP HEART RATE INCREASE DETECTED. CURRENTLY 180 BPM.]
Oh shit.
Shit shit shit shit...
Fuck, this has to be karma...
This isn't happening...
This can't be real...
It's gotta be some sort of dream, right?
Just some bad, bad dream...

You back up against the wall, clutching your hair and sliding down to the floor.
"H-hey! Are you okay!?" Rick runs over to you and puts his hand on your shoulders.
"D-DON'T TOUCH ME!!" You shove Rick away from you, causing him to stumble backwards. You flinch when you realize what you just did.
"I'm... sorry," you say, slowly standing up.

[VITAL SIGNS STABILIZING.]

You wipe tears from your eyes and sit in your chair. Your hands are still shaking. Rick stands in front of your desk.
"A-are you going to be okay during your State of the Citadel address?" He asks, concerned.
"I'm going to need some heightened security, that's all." You sigh, holding your head. "Just... tell my guards and the CPD that it was a direct order from the president."
Rick sighs. "Are you sure you're—"
"Yes. I'm fine." You groan.
Rick hesitantly salutes and exits your office. You lock your door and close all your windows. Leaving yourself in the dark. You sigh and curl up into a fetal position underneath your desk, silently sobbing in terror.
