I was a modest and unadorned woman. While the world viewed my sister, ever so elaborate, with awe-s...

Character aesthetics:
Sage ~ detailed and elongated phrases, dusty bookshelves, linen sheets, the smell of fresh paint, teacher's pet, straight lines, peonies, hidden smiles, Russian nesting dolls, "I am never falling in love", brunch, ballerina buns, "big things come in small packages"
Rosemary ~ flirtatious giggling, red wine, hydrangeas, hugs that engulf your soul, "there's more to her than meets the eye", smooth silk, picturesque shopping plazas, untamable locks, morning jogs, "I can't wait to fall in love!", midnight snacks, meaningless banter, messy buns, lavender
Nicholas Clark ~ seductive glances, temptation, bull horns, velvet, blue roses, deception, entrancing death, dark corridors, the feeling of someone breathing down your neck, secret passageways, taken innocence, betrayal, "do not be fooled by outward appearances"
There are many pleasures in life. Sinking into a warm bed after a taxing day. Having a warm drink by the fire on an autumn morning. Admiring one's work when completing a difficult task with ease. But out of all the pleasures in this unreliable universe and of all the satisfactions it has to offer, my personal favorite is the good company of a trusted friend; and, of course, a library.
Masks are the masters of deception. Who is whom? What is what? Can we decipher the truth in this masked hell? I had never been fond of masquerades, before I realized we live in our own never-ending, foolish, and cruel rendezvous of disguise. I began to see the horrid truth, and had many revelations of those whom I kept dear. I let go of the fakes, and found that I knew little people who bore no mask. I was hurt and relieved at once. But that's the thing about masks; they are only functional when worn.
