--) Robyn's POV (--
I woke up once again to the sound of birds chirping by my window. I listened to them for a while, until I decided to get up. I quickly changed into some shorts and a t-shirt, and pulled a hoodie over my slitted shirt.
I stepped into the dining/living room of my apartment and instantly smelled something. It smelled kind of good, but with a faint smell of burning.
I continued into the kitchen, to find Loki squinting at the packaging for what seems to be pancakes. "Mornin'" I say as I step around him. "Good morning" he grumbles, still looking at the packet. I look over his shoulder, into the pan on the stove to see a few pancakes that actually didn't look too bad.
"Need some help?" I asked, smiling. Loki frowned. "I do not understand how to 'flip the pancakes' without burning myself" he said, a hint of annoyance in his voice. I laugh slightly, and pull out a spatula from one of my kitchen drawers.
"You go like this" I say, flipping one of the pancakes. The now-flipped side is slightly burnt, as were all the rest. I grabbed a plate and piled the pancakes onto it, also getting a plate with some fruits on it. We both sat down and ate.
"They're a bit dry..." said Loki, looking at his pancakes and stabbing at them. He reminded me of a little kid who didn't want to eat his vegetables. I smiled, and he looked at me, confused. "What?" he asked. "Thanks, for, uh, making breakfast" I said, "Or at least trying to" I finished with a giggle. Loki pouted and returned to poking his food.
After we were done, I cleared the plates, setting them into the sink. Loki was already sitting on the couch. "Are you just going to sit there all day?" i asked, putting my hands on my hips. "What else do you wish me to do?" he asked, not even turning his head away from his book. I sighed and sat down next to him, pulling out my laptop. After browsing a few minutes, I smiled. Setting my laptop down, and got up. I grabbed Loki's arm and started pulling him towards the front door. "C'mon" I said, smiling. He groaned, but followed me anyway. After putting our shoes on and grabbing my keys, we both climbed into my car and I started driving. "Where are we going?" Loki asked, crossing his arms and looking impatient. "Somewhere" I said, grinning. That only got a small grumble from Loki, who looked out the window.
Eventually the city turned into fields of what looked like wheat and corn, I'm not sure. Loki still hadn't said anything else, and he seemed grumpy that I had dragged him out of the apartment. Oh well. We drove along a long, straight road for a while before a big forest came up in front of us. Loki looked up for a minute to look at the change in scenery before turning back to look out his passenger-side window. We drove into the forest and continued on the road for a while before turning off onto a side road.
"Can you tell me where we're going yet?" Loki asked in annoyance. "In a second" I replied, navigating down the short road. Finally we came to a packed-dirt parking lot. "What are we doing here?" Loki continued to ask me questions. I sighed. "It'll be fun, trust me" I said, turning towards Loki. He looked extremely pouty, and not at all like he wanted to be here
"Come on, please? For me?" I said. I gave him my best puppy eyes, even though I'd never actually given anyone puppy eyes. Finally after glaring at me for a while, Loki finally sighed and got out of the car. I smiled happily and got out as well.
When I walked around the car to get to the forest path, I saw Loki pouting. "Oh come on," I said. "It can't be that bad" I started walking up the path. "Stupid mortals and your stupid Midgard. Why did I have to come with you, Robyn?" he grumbled as he walked beside me. "Well, maybe because if I wasn't assigned the task of 'babysitting' you, you would be trapped in a glass cage forever" I stated in a sarcastic tone. Loki grumbled something else that sounded like 'Wings or not, I could take you down', but I wasn't sure.
We walked down a short pathway until we reached an area that resembled a town square of sorts. It was a paved circle, with a beautiful fountain spewing water in the centre. Around the edges, there were lots of stalls set up, selling lots of different things from exotic fruits to knick-knacks to clothes. Locals walked about, smiling happily as they went. Loki bent down and whispered in my ear. "What are we doing here?" he asked, looking around. He seemed intrigued by the tall, old trees and the happy people strolling through the square.
I turned, looking up at him. "When I was younger, Daniel would sometimes get the chance to take me to places outside the headquarters. We would come here, because it's so pretty and peaceful" I explained. Loki's gaze wandered back to me, and he looked me in the eyes. "Well then I'm happy you brought me here" he said, his attitude suddenly changing. Talk about bipolar, I thought as we walked around.
We came up to this stand where an old woman was selling used toys and knick-knacks. As Loki looked at the various bobble heads and things, I walked over to a really old Battleship board game set that caught my eye. "Wow, this thing must be, like, thirty years old!" I said, running my hand across the old box. Loki came over to see what I was doing. "What's that?" he asked, looking over my shoulder. I turned to him in disbelief. "You don't know what Battleship is?" I asked. He shook his head. The old woman laughed. "You musn't be from around here, are you, youngster?" Loki looked kind of embarrassed. "Actually, I'm not from around here." he said, obviously trying to reclaim some of his dignity. "And I'm not a 'youngster', I happen to be over-" I pulled Loki away before he could make a bigger fool out of himself.
We walked along for a bit longer until we came up to still stand ran by a young boy. "Hello there!" he said cheerily from behind the counter. I smiled and waved back, but Loki on the other hand remained cold and vigilant. The stand was quite long, with clothes piled neatly along it's surface. There was also a rack with bright bandanas and scarfs hung over it, which imediately called my attention and I walked over to it. Loki followed, still eyeing the boy behind the counter.
I looked at all the delicate and soft scarfs, which weren't really my style. But then a delicate red scarf caught my eye. It was a fiery red in the middle of the fabric, and it descended from red to orange to yellow at both tips. I decided to get it. I quickly paid the boy behind the counter, then I proceeded to wear it like a bandana, with the two ends flowing behind me. Loki walked up and smiled. "Suits you" he said.
After that, we bought some lunch and sat on the edge of the fountain. The silence around us wasn't awkward, we were both just listening to the birds and animals I the trees. After a minute, I turned to Loki. "See, wasn't that fun?" I asked, grinning. "I guess so" he said, but he was only trying to cover up the fact that I was right. I shuffled over to him. He blushed a little bit, not looking at me. I smiled and continued to eat my sandwich that I had bought for lunch.
"Do you want to play a game?" Loki asked, looking at me again. "Sure" I said, excited. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small item. He placed it in my hand, and I saw that it was a golden coin. "Make a wish" he said, nodding towards the fountain. I looked at the coin for a moment and then smiled.
Tossing the coin into the pool of water, I looked back at Loki, who met my gaze. "What did you wish for?" he asked, obviously curious. At that moment, I couldn't help myself. I leaned close and kissed Loki. He kissed me back, and we stayed like that for a moment. We broke apart, but Loki kept his arm around me.
"Nice wish" he said, grinning. I smirked. "Actually, that's not what I wished for" Loki looked at me, confused. Quick as a bunny, I reached around and pushed Loki into the fountain. "Now that's what I wished for!" I exclaimed, laughing. Loki looked quite upset, but upon seeing me laughing he brightened up. "Help me out" he said, laughing. In my laughing fit, I didn't even think it might be a trap. But as soon as a took hold of Loki's hand, he pulled me in.
I landed with a loud sploosh, into the fountain. I started laughing all over again, but quickly climbed out of the fountain. Loki followed. By now, people were looking, probably recognizing Loki.
"Let's go," I whispered. "We've already caused enough trouble." Loki grinned and agreed. We walked along the the forest path back to the parking lot, laughing and joking around. It was too soon before we reached the car and started the trip back.
I was happy, sitting with someone who didn't look at me funny, just because I was abnormal. He also told funny stories and jokes, not those cheesy ones you hear everyday. I was happy.
If only happiness for me could last.
