--) Robyn's POV (--

I couldn't breath. This had to be a dream. One of those you-thought-you-woke-up-but-you-really-didn't nightmares.

I slumped on my knees in the middle of the street, holding Daniel's lifeless body close. I let out a ragged sob as I closed his eyes. I tried to think that he was just passed out, or sleeping. But he looked too pale, and his chest didn't rise or fall.

I don't know how long I sat there, crying loudly and staring at his dead body. By now blood soaked my pants and the ground around me, but I didn't notice. I was numb all over.

Just when I was sure I had sat there for a thousand hours, I heard someone come up beside me and put there hand on my back, right between my wings. I tore my eyes away from Daniel to look at the newcomer. I don't know why, but I was slightly surprised to see Loki sitting next to me with his hand reassuringly on my back. I took a deep breath and swallowed, trying to gain my composer.

Unfortunately it didn't work, and I quickly turned and sobbed into his chest. Loki quickly put his strong arms around me and I felt a bit better. My head was fuzzy and I had a hard time thinking straight. "It's alright, Robyn," Loki whispered gently. "I'm here and I won't let you go." He was looking over my shoulder and staring at what I assumed to be Daniel's body.

I took a few deep breath, and pulled away. He looked at me with surprise and was obviously wondering what I was doing. I didn't say anything. Tears blurred my vision, and all I wanted to do was get out of there. I needed to get away, to think for a moment. Loki's gaze burned into mine as I snapped out my wings. He grabbed my wrist. "Robyn..." he started, but I didn't let him finish. "I just... need to go..." I didn't know what else to say. I glanced down at Daniel's body, lying on the ground and choked back a sob. I pulled my wrist from his grip and flapped my wings, taking to the sky.

I flew high, as high as I could. I saw ambulances rush around the corner to the street where Loki stood. I saw him look up at me with sadness. I looked away and tears silently streamed down my face. I just needed a moment to myself. I landed on a tall building at the edge of the city, skidding on the ground and almost falling. I lay down in the middle of the flat roof, staring up at the bright blue sky. Tears still stained my cheeks, and my throat felt raw.

Lying on the building, I saw many birds fly by. I smiled, knowing I could fly up and join them, fly away from all of this, ignore my past. But something tied me here. Tied me to the ground. I felt that those ties were a certain Asgardian. The way he smirked and poked at me for fun. I smiled, and fell into a deep sleep.

--) Loki's POV (--

I was wandering around a workspace in SHIELD headquarters. After Robyn had flown away and the ambulances had arrived, I had helped the best I could in bringing the bodies back. I insisted on carrying Daniel's body, knowing Robyn would prefer it over the ambulances. Now I simply walked around rows of agents working at computers, not taking much notice in what they were doing. I pained my heart to see Robyn so upset. I shuddered at the thought of losing my own dear brother.

I turned my head to check the time and noticed a winged-girl's shape on the monitor of a young agent. Robyn! I thought, intrigued. The agents around him were working on similar subjects. Slowly and quietly I strode over to him and peered over his shoulder. Along with the unmoving picture of Robyn, there were many ever changing numbers. Heart rate, breathing rate, brain activity. They seem to be all her bodily functions.

"May I ask what you're doing?" I asked, making the agent jump and look at me in surprise. "My job" he said unhelpfully. I rolled my eyes. "What's your job?" I tried. He still looked vaguely confused. "It's to monitor our most recent mutant, A1-27B" he replied, as if it was scripted into his brain. "I believe her name is Robyn" I growled, furious that they would call her by a simple string of numbers when, clearly, she was a lot more complex than that. The agent shrugged and turned back to his monitor. I watched over his shoulder for a few more moments. "Why do you monitor her?" I asked, curious. "Because she's a mutant," he said matter of fact-ly. "She fascinates the scientists, and they wish to monitor her." he shrugged again, never turning away from his computer screen.
