"How am I going to make it back to the mortal realm?""How would I know who is the last descendent of Merlin?"
"How will I survive in the human world without getting caught?"
I had so many questions, but few were answered.
Mother chuckled at all my questions that I had blurted out, shaking her head fondly at me.
"Ah, I can see that you are getting curiouser and curiouser, my little kitten."
"Remember how your Father sacrificed himself to save us all?" Her eyes took on a bitter and angry stance. I nodded, coaxing her to continue .
"He..died in the mortal realm, and foolish Merlin was unaware by the fact that he had..shed a lot of blood there. And because there is still magical blood in the mortal realm, it leaves a way of entering open. When your Father and I got married, we drew blood and put it into the necklaces we wore."
"It activates the portal and creates a two-way passage. Alas, a good deal always has a catch. The portal only opens for one day in a year."
She finished off, sighing bitterly."What?!?! A year? I have to spend a whole year in a realm where I have absolutely no contact with, no experience with, no familiar faces, no cheshires!" I shrieked loudly, terrified at mother's words. The shadow tigers were alarmed at the volume of my voice and sprinted faster, rocking the carriage violently.
"Don't fret dear, I have it all planned out for you." Said my Mother, cool as a cucumber, embracing me in her arms tightly. I closed my eyes, willing my heartbeat to follow my mother's, which was echoing in my ear.
"Remember your decades of training. They were all meant to prepare you for the mortal realm. Now, do you understand why I made you transform into your mortal self, taught you to wear clothes, use a ..-what was it?A p..p..hone?- A phone, how to use your social skills, how to attend school and all other necessary skills?" Asked my Mother knowingly.
I nodded my head meekly, finally seeing why I was not taught physical defences or sorcery.
" I have cursed a human family into thinking that you are their child. The human family is well-off, and also have no child, so when you arrive, you will be their only "child"."
"In the mortal realm, you will be what they call it an 'eighteen years old', studying at a "Polytechnic", a type of school. It is called the National Polytechnic of an extremely successful country , called Singapore."
My Mother could probably see that I was already panicking. The "symptoms" included scratching myself, feeling out of breath, and even fluffing up my fur till I looked like a fur ball.
Her brisk voice turned to one of assurance, as she answered my next question, which was,
" But how will I know who the descendent of Merlin is?""Ah, no worries, my kitten, we cheshires have the ability to master, learn and memorise anything we see, hear, or do, so you will be fine.
Sadly, we are unable to pin point the identity of Merlin's last descendent, but we are able to roughly figure out his location. That's why we are sending you there."
"Now, for the important part. Every full moon, once the sky covers the sun and the stars come out, you will transform into your true form, and there's nothing you can do to stop it. Try to hide on those nights, as humans will not take it very well if they see your true form. If they see you..." My Mother trailed on, leaving me to imagine what horrors would happen if they saw me.
"All our preparations and plans would be wasted. In the human realm, you must also eat desires or you will die, and we don't want that to happen. Do we?"
The words stabbed me hard in the chest. There was so much information yet I understood so little. Before I could ask my final question, my train of thought was halted to a sudden stop, as the carriage stopped abruptly as well.
I looked outside the window, and saw Kuraniko Castle. We had reached home, and I was going to leave it again soon.
