"Your highness. Did everything go as you have planned?"I whipped around to face the owner of the raspy voice.
"Nyssa! No need to hide, dearie! You nearly gave me a heart attack!" I gasped, both in surprise and relief.
From the corner of the chamber, the gleaming green eyes and gigantic grin morphed into the shape of a female Cheshire.
The dark-furred Cheshire was my second-in-command, and head female general of the royal army.
I once saved her from a burning oak which fell down and destroyed her home, and she was eternally grateful to me. She has now decided to repay me in whatever form, and has served me well over the years.
"Does the Princess know?" She inquired, curtsying in my presence.
"No she does not," I snapped. "You have done well, Nyssa, by cursing the necklace with a spying spell!"
Nyssa cracked a wry grin. " I brought it to the sorcerer, your highness. Shut him up with a few bags of gold too."
I cast an impressed look upon her. "You've really outdone yourself again Nyssa."

"With all due respect, your highness, I don't understand why the princess has to be kept in the dark about this," Nyssa continued on.
I growled angrily, and pounced on her, my claws digging into her shoulders painfully. Nyssa fell to the floor with a cry of surprise and shock, her eyes wide and fearful. My fangs were bared into a menacing snarl as I panted with fury.
"When she knows that she is watched and being listened to by me, she will not act naturally or concentrate on her task! This way, we can make sure if she is doing anything...foolish,"I hissed.
"I have planned this meticulously for decades, every step, every move. I don't want it all crushed to pieces by my headstrong and foolish Daughter. She will not know the truth, not now, not ever!"
" I just thought this was for the good of Cheshire! I never-"
I cut her off by saying, "It is. All this is solely for our kingdom. And if she ever finds out, you know what to do, don't you?"
With my intense gaze on her, she nodded stiffly, trying to regain some dignity.
"I'll first report it to you, then activate the necklace." She found it hard to summon up the next words," to give her visions of what might happens next."
"Good." I stood up, and brushed my self off. "Now go, return to your post."
Nyssa stood up too, gave me a deep curtsy and disappeared into thin air.
I left the chamber, as I thought about the conversation I had with Nyssa. She must never know the truth, I thought to myself.
"AH!" I yelled as I bumped headfirst into a portrait.
I picked myself off the ground, dusting myself, hoping that no one saw my embarrassing fall.
The portrait glanced at me intensely and I felt sadness wash over me.
My handsome Husband was staring back at me. His deep turquoise eyes shone like jewels in a pool, so like Cerise's that I blinked.
With a paw on either side of his face, I sighed heavily. "I wish you were here, Vintanly. If only you didn't believe in Merlin and all his values, you would still be standing here with me."
" This is what happens when you trust a rebel like him. Look where it got you. Terminated, by your own friend."
I placed a paw on his face, the colours so bright and vibrant that I thought he really came back for me.
But he was dead.
Forever.
With a snarl of fury, I clawed the beautiful painting of the wall and slashed it to ribbons and hunks of bright canvas.
I will avenge my people and my dead Husband, I thought darkly, if it's the last thing I do...
