Chapter Song: Sorry Not Sorry - Demi Lovato
"No, Kat. I don't want to."
"Adalyn, stop being so stubborn. You're gonna have to face him at some point, especially since you're gonna be stuck in a car for hours together." Katrina was getting more annoyed with me by the second, but I refused to agree to her proposition.
"No, Katrina! I'm not going to be in the same room as him until I absolutely have to." I tried tugging my arm out of her death grip but she wouldn't budge.
"You're a freaking child, I swear. You have like, three classes together. You see him everyday. Just come on! I only have to pick something up, then we'll head to school." She eventually stopped trying to drag me, only to cross her arms and narrow her eyes at me.
"Fine. Stay in the car if you want. I'm tired of trying." She shook her head softly, dropping her gaze to the cement below her feet.
Without another word, she starts to make her way up the winding driveway to the looming modern house in front of us.
I watched her for a few seconds as she trekked slowly, her shoulders dramatically slouched.
Scoffing faintly, I bite my lip and pray that my mouth with go along with my brain. Do not follow her.
Stay as far away from douchebag Torez for as long as possible. You'll be spending two weeks with him after all.
I mentally curse myself seconds after the words leave my lips. "Fine, wait!"
Kat was now facing me, a wide grin on her face.
As I made my way over to her, I kept chanting the same thing repeatedly.
Do it for Kat, do it for Kat.
I didn't realize we had made it to the front porch until the high pitched ring of the doorbell faintly made it's way to my ears.
I recoil when the sound of the large mahogany door being pulled open pierced my ears.
Yup, this was definitely a mistake.
I took a step back when an older man with greying hair came into view, a deep frown on his lips.
"Hey, Mr. Willis. Is Preston home?"
When the older man--Mr. Willis recognized Kat, his eyes widened a fraction before a smile creeped across his chapped lips, showing a row of crooked teeth.
"Ah, Katrina! It's so nice to see you again."
His eyes flitted over to me a second later, the smile becoming strained.
Gee, I feel welcome.
"Oh, Mr. Willis this is--"
"--The oh so famous Adalyn Dominski."
My eyes immediately snapped in the direction of the voice, surprised to hear my name come out of their mouth.
The person who had said my name was definitely not Mr. Willis.
A dark haired boy with broad shoulders smirked down at me.
I didn't realize just how much I hated those evil brown eyes until I scrutinized them and I really looked at them.
"The one and only," I muttered grimly, taking my gaze off of the shithead in front of me.
"Preston, hey. I came to pick up the worksheet I had loaned you."
I looked between the exotic couple, soaking in the words Kat had just spoken.
"Tell me, Torez. Who's the one getting answers from their significant other now?" I smiled smugly, proud that I had called him out.
