Chapter 2

~Katniss POV~

We lay on our blanket, staring up at the stars with Peeta's I can't stop smiling. I'm marrying Peeta Mellark. Who knew, right?! I'm happier now more than I can ever remember.

I observe the ring on my left hand. A double gold band with a pearl in the center and two small diamonds on either side. Peeta's always known I'm not crazy about gaudy jewelry but he knows the pearl is special to me. I cuddle closer.

"Katniss Mellark. It's sounds perfect."I whisper. Peeta chuckles and we roll over on our sides to face each other.

"It's the most beautiful name in the world." He whispers, leaning over to kiss me. I wrap my arms around his neck and cuddle closer.

"When should we get married?" I ask.

"Hm. Soon. What were you thinking?" he asks, kissing my forehead. It's early May now.

"I was thinking late June." He smiles.

"That is soon."

"But I want to get married to you as soon as possible." He chuckles and rolls over on his back. He pulls my body on top of his own. I rest my forehead on his own and smile at him.

"Me too, sweetheart. Now that I have to most beautiful fiancé I want to have the most beautiful wife." I blush and kiss him softly.

"I love you." I whisper, kissing him again and pulling my fingers through his soft, tangled curls. We get into a small make out session until I gasp and pull away. "Haymitch!"

"What you were thinking of Haymitch while we were kissing?" he laughs. "Am I really that bad a kisser?" he puts on a pout. I laugh and pinch his lower lip softly with the crook of my pointer finger and thumb.

"No, that's not it, you're great." He smiles smugly. "We have to go tell him!" I blush and look down at the ground. "He's kinda like family." I whisper softly. He lifts my chin and smiles sweetly.

"Of course we can go tell him." He says reassuringly. I smile again and jump up.

"Come on! Let's go!" he laughs and picks up the blanket, stuffing it in the basket. Then he takes my hand and we run back to town, laughing with each other as if the world were perfect. We don't know what time it is, maybe midnight? But we don't care, we run up the hill to Victor's Village. He run up to Haymitch's front porch and burst right in.

"Haymiiitch!" Peeta calls throughout the house and I hug his arm a little tighter. I'm always a little more nervous in Haymitch's house than anyone else's. Peeta kisses my head and it calms me down a bit. "Haymitch!" he yells again. We hear a groan from the living room. We walk in and he's nearly unconscious on the couch.

"Haymitch!" I yell, throwing a pillow at his head. He sits up and rolls his eyes at our appearance.

"Oh lookie there, my two FAVORITE victors here to pay me a visit at one in the morning." He growls.

"But it's impoooortaaaant!" I say excitedly, squeezing Peeta's arm.

"What. Is. It." Haymitch growls, annoyed. Peeta smiles smugly.

"I proposed." A lot happens all at once. Haymitch jumps up as a waterfall of vomit flies from his mouth and right at me. I let out a yelp. "Kat!" Peeta swings me out of the way not a second to late. My heart pounds like crazy against Peeta's chest. "Good God, Haymitch!" he yells.

"YOU-YOU PROPOSED!!!?" He exclaims, wiping his mouth on his sleeve.

"Well yeah! You're the one who gave me permission!" Peeta says defensively. A lot happens at once. Again. Haymitch's face splits into the biggest smile I've ever seen out of him and he lets out a whoop, jumping over to me. He picks me up around my middle and spins me around.
