I'm not going to lie, the drive to the new house has me kinda nervous. I know that Kaden likes extravagant, and whilst he's promised me multiple times between his cheeky little kisses that the house is quaint, and homey, I have a strong feeling we both have very different definitions of those two words.
He had hoped that I would adore the old house which was a log mansion, and I know how much he loved that house and I'll admit I did too. I loved the kitchen where we teased each other over breakfast, or our bedroom where he held me tightly at night. My favourite room was our ensuite bathroom where the dumbass finally plucked up the nerve to apologise and kiss me senseless. Hell, I even liked the living room where we fell out, because the sofa was so comfortable and that argument made us feel real.
But it was too big, it wasn't homely, too many of the rooms were unused and empty. It was the kind of place you went for a family vacation with all four of your children, as well as the grandkids for Christmas. It was a house that needed to be occupied by laughing and cooking and multiple people in different rooms around the house, the sounds of their various activities filling the void between each room.
Two people wasn't enough to make that a reality.
Kaden easily beat me to the car, and I would like to say it was because I stopped and watched his ass from behind in those tight suit pants as he ran, but I can't because I'd only be partly lying.
I did that after I tripped over a loose paving stone whilst we were neck and neck in the final stretch of back alley, and I just sat on the floor and watched him to see if he noticed I wasn't right next to him.
The dumb man was so hell bent on winning he didn't notice until he turned to his right to gloat at his win, did he notice I wasn't beside him at all, dangling the keys at him with a weak smile as I stayed sat on the floor.
He just grinned at me before walking back over and picking me up, taking the keys from my hand and sauntering towards the car with me in his arms.
"Don't make a bet you can't win, Luna." Kaden grins, kissing me softly as he puts me down in the passenger seat.
My cheeks warm at the sound of him calling me Luna, and I wait patiently for him to get in the car and drive to the new house.
My palms are sweating, because I desperately want to love the house, and I want it to be somewhere where I can see us settling, even if these plans are way into our future. I want to be surrounded by the pack, in the centre of the action. I don't want our house to be in the middle of nowhere like the old one, a long drive between ourselves and civilisation.
He drives around the park and into a large housing estate, and I begin to get excited.
"This is where nearly all of the pack live." He explains, waving to some of the pack wolves as they stop and bow to their alpha. "Because the majority of our territory is woodland, this is where we set up town, and this is where we wanted to stay all those centuries ago."
"Obviously with some modernisation." I chuckle quietly to myself as we pass a Walmart express in the centre of the cul-de-sac. "I'm pretty sure Walmart wasn't around a couple of centuries ago."
"Obviously there have been modernisations." He glares jokingly at me, his hand settling on my thigh. "But this was where the first houses were built, and we just built on top of them."
He rounds the corner and reveals one of the most beautiful houses I've ever seen, a large SOLD sign sticking out of the grass on its neatly trimmed lawn.
