I avoided contact with anyone for a whole two days, and it was the best two days I've had in a very long time. Food was brought to me on a tray and left outside my bedroom, and to take the short trip from the window seat to the door was the only time I ever left the comfort of the golden blanket.
I occasionally smelt Kaden's scent lingering outside my room, his natural musk clinging to the doorframe. But he never knocked, he never spoke to me and he never came in.
He left me alone and I'm grateful because I needed time, and I know that he does too.
He needs time to get used to being back at his pack, to get business back on track, and he can't do that whilst I'm skulking around begging for his attention without having to say anything.
But now I'm ready to return to the real world and leave the confinement of my room, and I think he's ready for me to leave too.
I hear the knock on the door that tells me that breakfast is ready if I want to come down, and I think I make the poor girl outside jump ten feet in the air when I open the door.
"Yes, I know breakfast is ready, and yes today I'm ready to come down."
The girl looks startled, her eyes wide and blinking rapidly, her mouth slightly open as she makes fish-like movements which makes me smile.
"Shall we?" I gesture down the hallway, seemingly snapping the girl back to reality. "Because I'm kinda hungry..."
"Yeah, sure!" The girl chirps overcheerfully. "I hope you're hungry, because there's extra today!"
I roll my eyes when she's not looking at me before putting on the fakest smile I can muster. She guides me down the same corridor and down the same set of steps, this time multiple pairs of little shoes once again littering the floor for me to step over.
I push open the ornate wooden doors, and every pair of eyes in the room are staring my way. Little pups with streaky bacon hanging from their baby fangs are staring at me with wide eyes, whilst their mother's push up their slack jaws, their gazes never leaving mine.
"This almost seems like a bad idea." I mutter to myself, stepping backwards until I collide into a body. "I think I'll enjoy my breakfast in my roo..."
"I think you should enjoy your breakfast with me." A familiar, deep voice grumbles close to my ear, shockwaves rippling out from the spot of skin his fingers are placed on. "I feel like we have some catching up to do."
He ushers me forward towards his office, away from the eyes of his pack members, which I'm grateful for. Most of them look unamused at my presence so I can't wait to shut the door.
Kaden goes in first, and when I follow after him, he closes the door quickly behind me, revealing a small table for two, covered in a checkered blanket and topped with a vase with a single flower in it. "What is this?"
Kaden scratches the back of his neck awkwardly, offering me an embarrassed smile. "I haven't been acting like the mate you deserve as of late."
"You don't say." I quip sarcastically, his eyes narrowing into slits as he glares at me.
"Lola, please." He strains, walking over to one of the chairs and pulling it out. "Just sit down, and let me try make things up to you."
