She smiled at him. He seemed happier, not by much, but happier. That was progress! She smiled at the thought. Him being happier, just the thought, made her feel a bit happier.

She looked back up at him, realizing that he had been looking at her.

"Can we like, reintroduce ourselves? I can't remember your name. And I'm not sure if you even remember mine," the boy looked nervous suggesting it, he fiddled with his book pages.

"No, yeah. I'm Daisy," she held out her hand for him to shake it.

He took it in his own, "Hi Daisy, I'm Bryce."

Daisy smiled brightly at him, "Great, now that that's over, give me your phone, I'll put my number in it, so we can talk."

Bryce looked at her strangely, running a hand through his hair. "You want my number? Why do you even want to talk to me? No one else does. I don't want your pity."

Daisy shook her head, "It's not pity. I thought since now that we know each other's names, we could be friends."

"Friends?"

Her eyes widened, "Or you know acquaintances first. That works too!"

"No, friends would be good." Bryce slid his phone across the table to her, unlocked, and she typed in her phone number.

"Text me."

"I will."

"You'd better."
