Walking to his next class after lunch, he felt lighter, brighter, as if someone had finally turned or flicked a switch inside him, turning on a light.
The rest of the day seemed to fly by, and by the time he headed back to his locker at the end of the day, he dreaded going home. He didn't want to go home. He was in a good mood and just the thought of going home brought his spirits down.
Reaching his locker, he found that he had received yet another paper red heart. Again. It was taped to his locker like the 2 other times, but this time it had a sticky note attached to the front, it read:
Bryce,
You matter. There are people out there who notice you and care, they may not be in your family, but they're here.
- AnonymousHe pulled it off his locker, grabbed his bag, then tucked the heart and sticky note in his backpack.
