We entered into the Dining room to see a huge pan of paiella on the table. Oh god i didnt reralise how hugry i was till now. My dad was sitting at the head of the table as usual and my mom was rushing around setting plates down and pouring wine and juice.
'Beer, Ronnie? my father asked gruffly.
'Uhhm suuuure..? Thanks sir.' Ronnie smiled looking over at me. Well maybe hell like Ronnie after all. Lets just hope the beer wont effect him hugely, not that i thought it would after his control after all the other beers he's had tonight. I sat in my usual seat to my dads left with Ronnie next to me so i was inbetween them. There was an awkward silence as my dad sipped his beer and my mom brought ronnie one and gave me a glass of her fresh lemonade and sat a glass of wine at her place. As she sat we took that as a signal that we could eat.
'Thanks Mrs.Summers it looks great' Ronnie smiled shyly. It was so weird to see him so loud and out going normaly compared to him when hes around my parents, its so strange. It's like hes a completely different person.
'Oh youre very welcome dear' she smiled warmly ' I feel terrible. I havnt even taken the time to meet your parents yet Ronnie. Im sure they must be wonderful people as to have raised such a polite boy.' My mom beamed taking a sip of her wine. Uh ohhh.... I felt horrible. I hadnt explained the circumstances to her yet, but she was so happy. It was ..... different. I think having Ronnie around helps her deal with it more because its not just us 3 in the house. Its nice, i like it when shes like this, the way she used to be.
'Uhhh...my...father.. isnt around much ma'am' Ronnie muttered taking a gulp of his beer and staring at his plate as he ate (oooh it rhymes :'} sorry haha)
'Oh. Work? What about your mom? I could invite her over one day, i feel terrible stealing you away from her so much haha oooh or i could bake-'
'mom-' i started. Oh god she really wasnt taking the hint. Then ronnie butted in.
'My mother dies when i was born' he said quietly. And there we were again, thrown in to an awkward silence by the ankles. Aw shit. I could see the look of shock wash over my mothers features as he stared down at his plate. He was probably used to the shocked expressions, the appologies and the condolances as i was about Bri. Even my dad looked a little shocked, and trust him to break the silence.
'Dammit Gabby!' He broke looking slightly exaspirated. Everyone slightly flintched at my dads sudden outburst after the deafening silence.
'Im so sorry Ronnie I-'
'Its fine. I'm fine.'
'I Just. I didnt know-' my mom stuttered
'Mrs Summers-' He said in a tone that almost made it final. 'you dont have to apologise.' He smiled politely before eating more of his food, but i could tell already that it was for her benefit. My mom looked a little flustered and frustrated. I know how she gets, shes probably frustrated with herself for saying that and frustrated that there doesnt look like anything she can do to fix it.
'So Ronnie you still in school?' My dad quickly asked breaking the tension. Maybe he'll let him off a little now...i hope. He kept his head down as he ate but stared intently at Ronnie from under his furrowed brow...ok maybe he wont let him off.
'Uhh yes. Sir. Senior Year. We start back in a week or so i think.'
'And they let you in with all... that' he waved his fork at Ronnies tattoos down his arms and neck.
'Yes, Sir.' He smirked down at his food 'Quite a lot of people have tattoos these days sir, its Las Vegas.' My dad almost grunted in response. Whats up with him?! hes being such a freaking ass. I kept eating my dinner in silence listening intently to their conversation and sharing the odd glance with my mom.
