In Love With The Madman

Chapter 29

 I opened my eyes to find florescent lights and people surrounding me. "Alexa!" Mom rushed over to my side. As my vision started to clear i saw Xavier sitting with Amber in the corner on the other side of the room. I tried to wave at them, but soon realised I couldn't move.  My body suddenly felt like it was being weighed down. what was happening.  

 I cant move, I attempted to say out loud, but nothing came out. My mouth refused to open. All that came out was humming. Xavier saw my panicked look and quickly got up. "Alexa, calm down. The doctor just gave you a pill to calm your pain, but your body reacted differently," Xavier said looking at me with a soothing look. 

 "It should be wearing off soon..." Amber trailed off looking at a nearby picture. "Hey Xavier, isn't that the guy you told George to kill." I looked at the picture she was staring at and then remembered exactly where we were. 

 "His father runs this hospital," My mom said calmly. It was my best friend that Xavier supposedly killed. Suddenly remembering it made me want to rush out of the room without looking back. 

 "I'm sorry, I don't know why I did it," He said with a sad face. I looked at him angrily that was my best friend; my only friend! He just killed him without knowing why! 

 "Isn't it obvious?" Amber smiled. "You were jealous." Xavier looked at her with a shocked look. Raspberry colour started crawling from my cheeks to my ears. 

 My mom looked from Xavier to me and started laughing. "You guys are still such good friends." 

 "What do you mean?" Xavier asked. If i was able to move I would've slapped him for how dumb he was. 

 "You know that picture that you saw?" He nodded. "That was there because 10 years ago we were friends. You just forgot," I explained. He looked at me with a sorrowful look. Did he feel bad for forgetting about our past? 

 "You guys weren't just friends, you were engaged," My mom said. 

 "Hey I know this is off topic, but you can move now Alexa since you're talking," Amber interrupted. She was right I could move. I started moving each finger one by one. They felt numb from being still for so long. 

 "That's great, now that I'm less worried about you Alexa I can ask about George. Is it true that he is the murderer?" Mom asked with a concerned look on her face. I had forgotten that my mom knew George. 

 "Yes mom, Xavier has never murdered someone directly." I looked at him signalling to the picture on the wall. 

 "I said I was sorry!" He yelled at me. 

 "Its your fault he's dead!" I yelled right back at him. Amber and mom tried to stop us, but we kept going. 

 "You forgave me before," he stated. 

 "I was dumb back then," I said realising that I was insulting myself. 

 "Back then was two months ago!" he laughed at me. Was it really only that long. It had felt like I had met him again almost a year ago. 

 "Guys, stop," Amber said grabbing the back of her brothers shirt. Xavier being to scared to push anyone gave up. I looked at him. This was the man I loved, but also hated furiously. 

 "Fine, but only because you said so Amber," Xavier answered. 

 "Well now that that's solved lets get back to the main problem on hand. George," my mom said changing the subject. 

 "How do we expose him? If Amber, Xavier, or I go to the police station we'll be caught?" I asked. "We also need more than one person to testify and some proof." 

 "Your dad can help us and also I may have a little bit of proof," mom said reassuringly.
