Logan's POV:
"That wasn't awkward at all," I groan sarcastically, at least 10 minutes after Maeva leaves the coffee shop. A silence had descended over Kaylie and I after I had too eagerly accepted Maeva's number from Kaylie. The silence was heavy and awkward, something that rarely occurs. I revert to leaning back in my chair, now glaring at my best friend.
She looks up at me, batting her lashes innocently as she drinks her sugary drink.
I groan again, feeling my heart race as I think about Maeva. I don't know what it is about her that just instantly draws me in. Sure she is beautiful...with her hazel eyes that always look so bright and her dark, long hair that looks so soft and full. It was soft. I can practically feel it running through my fingers as I held her while we danced. She was so happy that night. She couldn't stop smiling at me. I love that smile... I don't know how I made her smile so brightly at me but I hope I never ruin that. And her laugh. Her laugh is impossible to not return. Everything about her is captivating. She draws me in without even trying. It's just-
"Hey loverboy, come back to Earth," Kaylie teases. She cocks her head as she looks me over. "Thinking about your girlfriend?"
My girlfriend! I have a girlfriend! I love her. I love Charlotte. I love Charlotte. Charlotte. Charlotte.
"Yeah Maeva is great," I smile, my mind beginning to wonder again. Kaylie's eyebrows draw in confusion.
"Maeva?"
"What?" I snap back to attention, the words finally registering. "Charlotte! I meant Charlotte," I bite down on my lower lip, hoping she won't call me out on it. After another suspicious glance my way, she moves on to tell me about the upcoming unit exam she has been stressing over taking.
Maeva's POV:
"Who is it!" Niall finally shouts after 5 minutes of me pacing, mumbling to myself about the chances.
I sigh, turning to him while Vanessa sits quietly on the couch. I think she may be having the same idea that I am.
"Niall, I'm not completely sure. Obviously only you can know but..."
"Stop stalling Maeva," he practically growls, earning a flash of Ann's eyes.
"I think she's human...and I think she's my mate's best friend."
He looks saddened by this information. Most of us pray for another wolf as our mate. Not because we discriminate against humans or anything, it's just that human mates are far riskier. Many human mates won't even feel the bond and therefore don't care to be sought after by their mate. Most humans won't stick around after finding out our truth. The few human mates that are left after all that...well they aren't too great at surviving in our world. Compared to us, humans are fragile. If wars break out, or simply the wrong wolf gets pissed off, it could mean death for our human companion. They can't fight back. We're genetically dominant and they can't change that. So when we have to introduce a human into our world for our own sanity, it can get rough.
"I understand how hard having a human for a mate is-"
"She's mine," he mutters, staring intensely at the hardwood floor.
I bite down on my lip. I wish I were that confident about my own mate. "I hope for your sake that she agrees with that," I mumble.
He finally makes eye contact with me again, a new determination in his eyes that wasn't there before. "I will win her over, no matter what it takes." With that, he moves to walk past me to the front door. I can tell by his walk that he's going to go looking for her. 'I don't blame him.'

My Taken Mate
Hombres LoboThis isn't your average fictional werewolf lovey-dovey fairytale. It doesn't start with "I met my mate and it was love at first sight for the both of us" and doesn't actually have an ending. These "events" actually did happen. How do I know, you ask...
