You don't remember how things got out of hand. One moment your talking to your best friend Jackson and cheering for your school swim team, and next thing you know, your head is in agony as you hold off from breathing in cold chemical-infused water.
The swim team had been celebrating, throwing random guys and girls into the water, and you were the unlucky people who got dunked. It was all fun and games. Except they didn't know you couldn't swim. You weren't even wearing swimwear at the time, instead wearing a thin hoodie and singlet, blue jeans matching your shoes. The clothes had soaked up the water like a towel, weighting heavily on your body as you were dragged lower into the water.
Your vision was spotting black when you felt strong hands grabbed the collar of your hoodie, lifting you above the surface as you gasped for air, coughing and sputtering against the shocking gulps of oxygen.
"Y/N! Y/N, are you alright?" Jacksons voice pierced your watery ears, eyes burning with tears as you clutched him in a death grip. His body was warm against the cold water, hair limp against his face from his sudden dive. His blue eyes were clouded with concern.
"I'm okay- I'm okay." You croaked. "Just- can we please get out of the pool?" You begged softly, fear still evident in your shaky voice. Jackson nodded and swam you both to the edge of the pool, waiting for you to climb out before he did.
"I'm gonna go get you a towel, okay? Just wait here." Jackson jogged off on quick feet, coming back a minute later with a fluffy orange towel. You took off your hoodie and shoes, wrapping the towel around your shoulders.
"Thanks man." You shivered and Jacksons face morphed from worry to anger.
"Those frickin' jellyfish-brained assholes-"
"Jackson-"
"-Didn't even think about-"
"Jackson."
"-Who they were throwing in!"
"Jackson!"
"You could have died!" He ended petulantly, lips down turned and pinched like his brows.
"But I'm fine. I might have a few nightmares, but I'll live." You joked lightly, smiling tiredly. "Let's just relax for now and enjoy the sun." Jackson nodded hesitantly before sitting besides you. You rested your head against his shoulder, closing your burning eyes.
"This won't happen again." Jackson muttered.
"I know. Just let it go." You snuggled into his shoulder with a soft sigh, letting the sun dry your wet skin.
💧💧💧
Jackson didn't let it go. In fact, he made a giant deal of it a few days after the carnival.
You didn't see it in person, but you saw it all over Facebook.
'Jackson Whittemore destroyed the swim team! Suspension worth it, Captain?' You saw on your timeline, clicking on the posts. Attached to it was two photos. One of an empty school pool and a giant banner hanging up with the words 'Fuck You! - Love Jackson W' on it.
In the comments of the post, you saw Jackson's reply.'They almost drowned (Y/N) with their stupidity, so I gave them that instead of charging them with attempted murder.' He put an angry face after it. You couldn't help but feel overly affectionate at the gesture. You sprung from your bed and ran out of your house to hop on your bike.
You had to see Jackson and thank him.
💧💧💧
Jackson hopped off his lounge when he heard the knock at his door. He grumbled under his breath and opened the door.
"What do you-" You cut off his bitter tone with your lips, sudden and passionate, arms wrapped around his neck as you pressed close.
"Thank you." You whispered with a grin against his lips.
"Uh, your welcome?" Jackson didn't think his mind would ever go blank from a kiss, but it had. You laughed as it shell-shocked expression.
"My hero." You smirked, kissing him softly this time. Jackson hummed against your lips, slipping his arms around your waist.
"If being an asshole to assholes means I get this every time, I might just be more of a douchebag than people already think I am." Jackson gave a lopsided grin.
"You can have more of this if you go on a date with me?" You pierced your lips to stop your cheek-splitting grin.
"You don't even have to ask. In the car, I'm taking you out to a date you'll never forget." Jackson closed the front door behind him, arm around your waist as he fished his keys out of his pocket.
"Perfect."
