Isaac gasped, pain exploding in his cheek as he fell down, his hand taking most of the impact with a dull ache.

"What did I tell you?!" Fred's voice hurt his ear, but he mumbled a reply meekly.

"Don't talk to the mailman."

"Speak up!" His boyfriend screamed, shaking him to the core as he turned to look back at him.

"Don't talk to the mailman-!" This time Isaac's face hit the tiles, a migraine pulsing through his head. His cheek was no doubt bruised or red by now.

"Don't yell at me, you bitch." He snarled. Isaac cowered like usual, enough for Fred to take enough pit on him and gather him up in his arms. It was normal for Fred to kiss all the pain away, say a half-assed sorry and prove how much he loved Isaac physically. Isaac simply went through the motions, like he had for weeks now. Everything just seemed...old. It was the same old pattern of every week.

He moved in with Fred after his dad beat the shit out of him and left him homeless. Fred and him had only been dating three months by then. After living with him a month, Isaac began to notice Fred's new attitude. The jealousy when he texted his friends from school, the anger when he was late home from his after school job at the cinemas, the absolute fury when Isaac tried to go out with any of his friends.

At first, Isaac thought he was just a worrier. Protective of him, which Isaac found sweet. Until it got physical. It was a small slap over something petty, but Fred had apologised instantly, holding him close and swearing not to hurt him again. Isaac was too in love to be mad, letting Fred take him to bed and fill the hole of loneliness.

After a year of dating though, Isaac was stuck. Fred had practically cut him off from society all together after he graduated the month before. He monitored his phone, made him quit his job and call all his friends to say he didn't want to see them anymore.

Allison had taken the rejection the hardest, pounding on his front door and demanding he talk to her. His heart broke when her voice shook and begged him to open up. After an hour, she left defeated and Fred let him go back to wandering the house.

Fred had gotten a nine to five job recently, so it gave Isaac a little more freedom. He was thankful. It was a few hours after their argument over the mailman, when his phone buzzed. He picked it up like it was meat to a carnivore, opening the message.

Allison: Scott and I are in town
Allison: I don't know if you still care
Allison: But if you do, meet us at Mia's Diner at 12
Allison: - Allison and Scott xoxo

He felt a lump grow in his throat, holding the phone close. Allison was giving him a chance after everything. God, he wanted to see them. They'd been two of his best friends during high school. He missed them, but most of all, he missed human contact and voices that wasn't harsh and piercing.

Isaac: I'll be there. We have a lot to discuss.

He didn't care if Fred beat or killed him. At least he'd die happy knowing he tried to mend their friendship.

Isaac wore a scarf and covering clothing so no one could see his bruised body, he kept his scarf over his nose and mouth to hide as much of his cheek as he could. The air was brisk, but the sun was warm when he left the house. He could feel himself sweating already as he walked towards the Diner with the GSP on his phone.

Mia's was soothing with pastel blues and pinks, comfortable booths and homely atmosphere. The tension in his shoulders he didn't know he had fell off like bricks to the floor. He checked the time. He was early. He sat at an easy to spot booth, waiting for Allison and Scott. His stomach was in knots.
