"Late late late! I am going to be so late!"

Stuffing her sketchbooks into her blue and white backpack, as well as putting a tablet in there, she managed to zip it up. Already having her school stuff in the correct backpack, she quickly puts on her shoes, turns off the lights of the dining room, and opened the door. She didn't even bother to lock it with the key she wears on her ID.

She sprinted to the right, hoping to catch the bus on time. She scolded herself mentally to actually turn on the alarm the day before. Why did she forget that important thing?

She eventually was halfway there, and she can see the bus stop. What is worse is that the bus is already letting kids on, and the last kid was actually getting on. "WAIT!!" She called out, panting. But the bus was already turning to the right, and it drove down the road. Stopping, she was catching her breath. So close, she was so close. Nervous and upset, she trudged back on her way home.

She can't obviously miss a day of school, so she hopes that her papa doesn't mind bringing her to school.

---------------------------

After a long drive with the car, she hopped out and thanked her dad, proceeding to take her backpack from the backseat of the car, and waving him off as he drives back home. She turns and starts walking to enter the school, just barely managing to see that her bus has just arrived into the school as she was driven there.

Smiling to herself and thinking about other things, she marches past the front doors and onto campus grounds. There, she jogged her way across the school, and seeing her friend. Well, one of a few. She had a cheeseburger backpack, and as a weirdo she was, she called to her friend with the chant. "Cheeseburger backpack! Cheeseburger backpack! Cheeseburger backpack!" Then sat herself down on the bench next to her friend, who greeted her kindly but tiredly, "Hey Kasey. How's it going?"

Kasey smiled, "I missed the bus! But you sound tired, so..." She gave her friend a hug, and they hugged her back. Then they sat down and talked until the rest of their friends arrived.

This is all normal for Kasey before her first class.

The place is definitely not safe anymore.

Fire was burning and scientists were screaming, trying to escape and get out of the building. Some running around, some coughing and curled up on the ground, and others are standing there in shock.

Well, except for one.

He has brown hair, which is now singed, and his skin used to be a light brown before the soot made it grey and almost black. He was wearing a slightly burnt grey lab coat, and he is trying to open the containment cells.

Punching the numbers into the keypad, he opens the door and lets strange creatures run past. Creatures that used to be regular animals, but gained some odd sense of powers. He grins as they escape the facility, knowing that they will be free. But he frowns as he sees that one is missing. He looks into the room, and looks up at the tallest one of the group.

It has three arms and large ears along with their large head. They seem humanoid apart from their tail, fur, legs, and claws. They were holding up rubble, singed by some nearby flames as two little creatures were under it. One was a small owl, chittering and shaking in the spot. But the other one was a dead cat. That one has died long ago.

The man looks up to the creature, shouting over the roaring flames, "C-H-0A-5, you have to escape now!" He makes his approach to the experiment, but they refused to move. The man, coughing, picked up the kitten and the owl, and the experiment let some of the rubble fall, but refused to leave the spot. It looks straight into the man's eyes, growling.

The man gave a weak smile, then something besides them blew up. The man went flying, but let go of the cat and owl. The owl spread their wings and held the already dead cat, and flew past the doorway. The creature, screeching, went to the man and picked him up and held him close. The entire building shook and the flames made the air almost impossible to breath.

The creature held on tightly to the friend of it, and the entire ceiling collapsed onto them.

A few days later, Kasey got a notification on her tablet. It was from a news report.

""Arizona Lab accident has reported no deaths, and all experiments to be destroyed." Matthew Newman says. A story from briefing."

Kasey frowns, feeling as if there was something of significance there. She decided to screenshot the article title and search it up later. It was getting late anyway and she has to complete her math homework...

She decided to message a friend of hers, asking about the accident and if they knew it. The friend replied with a yes but they have not read the article. Or have seen the news. Kasey sighed. What is with these accidents and what is causing them? She decided to sleep on it.
