You sighed as you got comfortable on the couch beside the demon, shifting until you felt a little less tension. You glanced over at him, a small smirk on his face.
"I'm guessing there's no negotiating here, so sure. Let's chat Cipher."
"Glad to hear you choose the easy way, now it has come to my attention that you don't think to highly of me."
"Oh really? Did I make it that obvious? Sorry if I hurt your feelings," you said flatly with an eye roll.
"Exactly. Since you don't like me I have plenty of grounds to ask why you don't like me. So what is it about me that makes you hate me so much?" He asked simply though your face dropped as the words left his mouth. He had a point... why did you hate him as much as you did?
"I mean, you're a demon, and you treat people like they are nothing but piles of walking flesh.. and you are entitled and arrogant and you have such a huge ego and you are so confident all the time, thinking everything is going to go your way and your personality and sense of humor is just awful!" You spit out the first things that came to mind as he raised an eyebrow at you and nodded slowly.
"Interesting, so you assume I'm evil because I'm a demon, though you aren't wrong. You don't like my treatment of your kind. You think I'm snobby and stuck up, and you hate how I can see the possible future despite it being something anyone can do. Oh and I can't forget, you hate my personality, which - might I add - is odd since you haven't spent nearly enough time around me to know what my personality is really like." He reworded your response, making you almost feel a bit guilty, but at the same time, this demon was master of the mind and was good at twisting words to his will.
"Yeah? Well its not my fault you only appear in my dreams so that's the only time we talk. Plus, I don't need to hang out with you to-"
"Assume what I'm like."
"Stop finishing my sentences for me!" You snapped as you crossed your arms. Though he wasn't wrong as much as you wanted to admit it. You had practically assumed who he was since the moment he introduced himself. From all the book said, you had a harshly biased opinion of him even before you accidentally released him. Was it possible that you were really in the wrong here?
"(Y/n), I can see that your mind is working, but out of respect to our little one on one chat, I'm not going to read your mind. So let me provoke it a bit more by asking you a simple question. What would you say to making a deal with me?" He said, a small smirk playing his lips as your eyes widened and you blinked up at him.
"A deal? I'm not giving you my soul Ciph-"
"No, no, no! I don't want your soul! I'm not one of those demons. I'm more of a... 'I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine,' kinda guy. A simple deal is all I purpose." He grinned. You looked down as your mind ran in circles. You couldn't believe you were actually considering this. Were you crazy? A deal with the devil himself?
"What... kind of deal do you purpose?" You asked hesitantly.
"Well you see, I am released thanks to you, but I am only able to traverse the Mindscape. I wish to be able to be a part of the physical world as well, or, your realm."
"But when I released you, that wasn't a dream, we were in the physical realm. So how are you 'trapped' in the Mindscape now?"
"Apparently a day after being released, I am sucked back into the Mindscape if I haven't found a vessel to possess or attach too. So, here we are. Anyways, the deal I ask of you is simple. You allow me to attach myself to you, which gives me access to the physical realm, in return, I will give you something you ask of me." He said simply. You stared at him like he had four heads. Attach himself to you, what the hell does that even mean?
"What do you mean by 'Attaching' yourself to me? I want no parts of demonic possession so that is a definite-"
"Attaching is not the same thing as possession, (Y/n).  Possessing is the process in which I take your body for my own and push you into the Mindscape as I do so. Attachment, however, is a concept that I usually never offer. Attaching entails that I bind my life source to your living soul, meaning that what happens to you, happens to me... in a sense."
"Huh... so say I were to die?"
"I would 'die' too, but really I would just be pushed back into the Mindscape because I can't truly die," he said with a grin. You nodded and looked away for a moment. This offer was nuts, and to accept it would make you even crazier, but it could be used to your advantage.
"Tell me more about how 'Attachment' works Cipher, and I might consider," you said as you leaned back and crossed your arms. He instantly floated up off the couch and sat in the air in front of you as he nodded.
"Well let's see, I'll try to tell all that I know, though I have never attached to someone before so what I know won't be the extent of what Attachment really means. I know for a fact that I have my own physical form, meaning I don't need to possess yours. I know that I must stay by your side or at least be honest you and know where you are at all times. The demon and human in agreement of the Attaching gain the ability to telepathically communicate. Your soul is tied to my physical form, so think of it as your soul replicating and I get the cheap replica. Though it's not any of that weird, 'you feel what I feel, I feel what you feel,' stuff . We are separate entities, but if your soul perishes, so does it's replica, destroying my grounds to stay in the physical realm and sending me back to the Mindscape at the same time," he explained as your head spun. It was a lot to take in as you nodded slowly.
"Okay... I'm understanding but I have a few-"
"Questions? Shoot," he stated simply. You simply rolled your eyes and continued.
"Why is it that we have to stay close? Why can't you just go do your own thing and then 'die' when I actually die?"
"You see, I know that a 'replicated soul' gets it's power and source of energy from the soul of which it was originally created. I also know that when the replicated soul gets too far from the original soul, it cannot absorb it's shared energy, meaning the replicated soul grows weak and eventually within a day or two, perish."
"That's probably why the concept is called 'Attachment', you are practically forced to be attached to the human you make a deal with at almost all times unless you want to lose your physical form," you reasoned as he nodded in agreement. "Another question, if we can communicate telepathically, does that mean you hear all my thoughts and I hear all of yours? Cause no offense Cipher, but I could do without seeing into your mind."
He chuckled and shook his head, "No, only if you will yourself to communicate with me will I hear what you are saying telepathically, and you can never read my mind unless it's some I communicate telepathically with you. As for me, I would still be able to read your thoughts, but I could talk to you through your mind as well if we make this deal," He snickered. You nodded as you leaned forward and contemplated the deal. Though a few things still clouded your mind, making you hesitant.
"How do I know you aren't lying and this is all gonna turn out to be some permanent possession?"
"Okay, listen here. I don't fool around when it comes to deals. That's one thing I don't joke about, so you can be sure that when I ask to make a deal and we shake on it, that I mean what I say." He said in a tone as serious as you had ever heard him. You nodded and sighed as you looked down once more.
"What exactly... could I ask for on my end?"
"Nearly anything your cute little heart desires."
"Could we make a deal if I don't know what I want yet?"
"An opened ended bargain, huh? Not usually my way of doing things, but neither is Attaching, so there's a first time for everything I suppose," he said floating closer to you as he let himself plop onto the floor, standing in front of you. Something in your gut told you this was a horrible idea, though with what he had said earlier you couldn't help but think there was a possibility of him not being all that bad. You were the type of person to give second chances, and Bill was already trapped in a nameless realm for a lengthy amount of time after his last apocalyptic escapade. Maybe he had learned from his mistakes. In this moment, you decided to take the benefit of the doubt and play the Devil's Advocate, you decided to trust Bill.
"Fine, I'll make this deal with you. You can Attach to me and I'll tell you want I want from you when I know. Deal?" You asked, slowly lookin up at him as his grin grew wild and his eyes began to glow blue again.
"Deal," he said as he held out his gloved hand as it became engulfed in blue flames. You gulped as you took a final breath, reaching your hand up and extending it out. You grasped his hand, both your and his arm's becoming engulfed as you shook on it. The flame crawled up to your neck and his, both of you looking confused before you both gasped and let out screams of pain. A sudden, horrible burning sensation seeped into the back of your neck's as your grips tightened on one another's hands. You both looked at one another one last time before everything around you went black.
