Chapter 4

*Asher’s POV*

I was so nervous around Jessica. I didn’t know how to react to her or what to say. Just as we were about to sit down my phone vibrated.

Unknown:

You need to come right now, and I’m not gonna ask you again.

My face instantly paled. Jessica turned and looked at me.

“Hey are you okay?” Her face showed how worried she was. Even with her forehead all scrunched up, she was still beautiful.

“Uh, yeah I’m fine. Let’s go get you some lunch. I think I heard your stomach growl in the hallway.” She rolled her eyes at me.

We walked over to the lunch line and I grabbed her food for her and paid for it.

“You know you didn’t have to do that right? I have my own money you know.” She frowned at me. I just took both our trays and she led me to her table. I was staring at her the whole time, wondering how I got a girl like this to even talk to me.

“Well I wouldn’t be the gentleman that my mom raised me to be if I didn’t now would I?” I answered with a smile. She just rolled her eyes. She’s so cute when she does that. We sat down at the table when a couple walked up and plopped down next to us. They were in a very heated conversation.

“Look I already told you I wanted to hang out with Jess this weekend. Plus you have a game on Friday and I know that you can’t miss that. It’s the first one of the season.” I recognized the girl as Joana, Jessica’s best friend. The guy I assumed and hoped was her boyfriend.

“Okay babe, I guess I can live one weekend without you. And who is this?” The guy said as he turned to face me.

“I’m Asher, I just moved here about a week ago.” I replied, happy that he had a girlfriend. Less competition with Jessica. I scoffed to my conscious. Like I had a chance with a girl like her anyway.

“Oh, well I’m Tyler, and I think you’ve already met my girlfriend Joana and her best friend Jessica. Say, you wouldn’t by any chance be up for playing football would you? You seem like the type.” He had guessed right.

“Yeah I actually wanted to talk to the captain about it before I talked to the coach. You know who that is?”

“You’re looking at em’. What position did you play at your old school?”

“Corner back.” I was proud to be able to say that I played as well I did. I was almost and All-Star for my position.

“Hey, that’s good to hear, why don’t you come with me after lunch and I can talk to the coach for you. I think we have a great spot for you on the team man.” I shook Tyler’s hand and thanked him.

“Yeah that would be great.” I smiled.

“Okay okay, enough of this football talk. Back to me and Jessica please.” Joana said. Jessica just rolled her eyes and ate her lunch. I didn’t know if I should say something to her. I was just about to when my phone vibrates again.

Unknown:

You seem to not understand what I mean when I say Right Now. I guess I’m just gonna have to show you what I mean.

I immediately got up and explained to Jessica that I had to leave. I asked Tyler for his number and left.

I thought when I moved here I would be able to get rid of this. I guess your past follows you no matter where you go.
