Chapter 8

*Asher’s POV*

I arrived at the warehouse at 9. Jaxon’s men were there again and I waited until I saw him to continue in. Instead of Jaxon, I saw someone else about my age. He was an inch or two shorter than me with jet black hair and hard icy blue eyes. He had a chiseled face and broad shoulders. You could tell this guy worked out. He had a tattoo running up his neck and another on his forearm. He had a deep tan like he worked outside a lot, and a smirk plastered on his face. “So my dad told me you would be coming today, guess I didn’t think you had the balls to show up. My names Ethan by the way, but I think you would have learned that eventually. My dad left me in charge, he had some business to attend to up north. You will listen to me and do as I say or your precious little brother and your mom will be dealt with, understand?” He said. I was grinding my teeth. Who did this kid think he was? The son of the man who help destroy your family. Oh yeah, that’s right.

I followed Ethan inside and he led me to another room. Inside the room were over five Mac computer screens set up and connected to each other. On the screens were the surveillance images of the bank. There was one at the front door, inside the safe, behind the counter, outside in the back, and in the manager’s office. There was a giant map spread out on a brown table with pool chairs surrounding it. There were guns and duffel bags to my right, and cases full of some other things I didn’t know about to my left. Ethan gestured for me to sit in the chair in front of the computers.

“So as you know, your father was an amazing hacker. He help us with all of our jobs and getaways and didn’t ever turned on us, well you know, until he got caught. You will be doing the same thing. We need to hack into the system and see when the next major shipping of money is. Also, we need to you figure out the combination of the safe and change the schedules of the security. We will be setting off traps so we need you to help set the alarms to our benefit so we can sneak in and be out in about an hour, does that sound good?” He asked. This was way too much for me to handle, but how could I tell him no knowing what him or his father would do to my family. I was still grinding my teeth when Ethan spoke again.

“I might even convince my dad to give you a little part of the money if you end up helping us out well. I suggest you get started, you have a lot to do.” Then he walked away from the room with his men. I looked over the map and started trying to organize how I was going to exactly open the safe up. I went through some options in my head and started to write them down on pen and paper I found on the other side of the table. I went to the computer and started looking through the system. I had to start thinking like a hacker again. I had to remember all the things my father taught me, because if I know there is one thing I’m excelled in more than football, it breaking and entering.

*Asher’s POV*

I was finally able to go home once Ethan looked over the work I had done. He then gave me a nod of approval and let me leave. Once I got home, I walked into the kitchen to find my baby brother sitting there with a little girl next to him. They were eating spaghetti and meatballs and laughing and giggling about something that only little kids would. I saw another woman standing against the counter with my mother, both laughing as well over a glass of wine. The woman had dark brown hair and striking green eyes. She was about my mom’s age but her daughter, I’m assuming, looks nothing like her. My mother finally turns around and sees me standing there and staring at the seen in front of me.

“Oh hi honey, when did you get in? I was just talking to Mrs. Northe and she brought her daughter along as well to play with Brayden.” She said with a smile. Mrs. Northe walked up to me and shook my hand before give me a hug. “It’s nice to meet you sweetie, I’m glad Paige has someone her age to play and talk with.” She admitted honestly. I smiled back and her before realizing that she had some of the same features as Jessica. Was this her mom? No, Jess would have told me if she had any younger siblings by now. I would have to text her later to find out for sure though.

I continued into the kitchen and when Brayden saw me, he shot up. “Bubba your home!” He exclaimed as he jumped up into the arms I had out waiting for him. I loved my little brother, even if he was a little monster sometimes. I had to be an example for him since he no longer had that ‘father figure’ anymore. I gave him a giant bear hug and he giggled. “Hey kid, I missed you today. You wanna introduce me to your friend?” He nodded his head up and down really big. He jumped down from my arms and looked up at the little girl, I also, finally, looked down at her. She had to be the prettiest little girl I had ever seen. Midnight black hair that shined in the right lighting with long waves. Bright icy blue eyes that captured you and anchored you there. She had dark pink lips and pale skin. She was so cute. When she giggled at Brayden, her smiled showed a full row of perfect straight teeth. This girl was perfect for my little bro. I chuckled to myself. Brayden held my hand as Paige introduced myself. “Hello, my name is Paige. Brayden told me that you were his big bubba, is that true?” she asked me under dark lashes. I smiled down at her. “Yes, I’m his big bro. Do you have any older siblings?” She smiled immediately. “Yes! I have a big sissy name Jessica. She’s so pretty and I love her hair and her eyes. Her eyes are like little chocolate drops but she hates them. And she’s so cool. She took me to the bookstore and let me get all kinds of books.” So Jess did have a little sis. I would have to ask more about that later. “Oh that’s cool. I think I may know your sister.” Her eyes lightened up again. “Oh really? That’s great. She’s so nice. She’s the best big sissy I could have ever asked for.”

Brayden look upset for a minute, I bent down to ask him what was wrong as I went over to the stove to fix myself a bowl of spaghetti. “What’s wrong bud?” I asked concerned. He frowned deeper before he spoke. “Do you like Jessica more than me?” He asked sincerely. He looked really hurt by it. I picked him up and put him on my hip before I kissed his forehead. He would always be my little man, no matter what. “Naww, you will always be my fav. Trust me, who’s the best little bro in the world.” He smiled widely. “Me!” he exclaimed. “That’s right. Now go on and play with Paige in your room while I finish up in here.” He hugged me tight before he hopped down and raced Paige upstairs to his room.

I went into the living room and watched tv. At ten, I went upstairs to go to sleep. Around three o’clock in the morning I found myself being carried by some guys, but before I could scream, they put a sock in my mouth. They tied my hands and feet together while I was asleep, I assumed, and carried me downstairs. I couldn’t identify them because they were wearing black hoodies. They threw me in the back of a SUV and pulled out of the drive way. When they finally untied me and pulled the socks out of my mouth, they pulled off the hoodies. Underneath I recognized the as Shaun, Alec, Cody Darren, and Tyler. They started laughing when they saw my confused face. “Okay so now you’re officially welcomed to the team.” I shook my head at them and look up at the sign that said IHOP. We walked in and I saw many other guys that seemed to be in the same predicament as me. Tired, grumpy, and now a little hungry. We all sat down at tables and ordered food. Me and the guys sat together and laughed about the ‘kidnapping.’

“Dude you should have seen your face. You were so confused.” Tyler was laughing as well. I rolled my eyes at them. “Yeah yeah, laugh it up. And thanks guys, this is pretty nice.” I said. “Aww, he loves us!” Cody yelled. Darren shook his head and looked down at the menu. We all ordered our food, I got red velvet pancakes, and waited for our drinks. I looked down at my phone to see what times it was. Almost 4 in the morning. I shook my head knowing I wasn’t going to go back to sleep after this. I started playing candy crush while the guys joked around until our food came. I dug in, sleep and tired but hungry. I moaned a little on the inside. These are so good. I’m gonna have to take Jess, Paige and Brayden here to taste them one day. While I was thinking, the guys started talking about the upcoming games. “We’re gonna crush McKinley High.” Shaun boasted. He was a linebacker and had a tough hit. Darren shook his head. “I don’t know man, Tristian said they had a pretty good quarterback this year. We got anything to worry about Tyler?” He questioned. Tyler shook his head. “Naww, we got these boys. We’ll have them running home by the time homecoming gets here.” He admitted confidently. I could tell Tyler took pride in saying this. They guys had trained really hard at summer camp. I just hope that I’m not gonna disappoint.

We finished our food and they drove me back home. I climbed back into bed since coach announced that we would excuse of us for being a little late to first period today. I closed my eyes and slept, thinking about what they next few day would hold for me.
