Initiation continued to be hell for the next week as they put us through more and more Fear Landscapes. Some were computer generated others were the real Landscapes of Dauntless leaders.

One week after starting initiation, we were sitting outside the Fear Landscape room waiting on Four and Tori.

“You okay?” Uriah asked, leaning closer to me.

I nodded and cleared my throat before quietly answering. “Yeah, I just didn't sleep last night,” I said.

“Well, depending on how today goes maybe we could hangout after dinner and take your mind off things,” he said.

“Sure. That sounds great actually,” I said.

“Listen up,” Four yelled. “Today you will be going through the first fear in your Fear Landscape. We have a serum that can produce all sorts of situations where you have to overcome your first fear.

“Also, we'd like to remind you that becoming fearless isn't the goal. That's impossible. We're here to teach you how to react in situations where you're scared.”

“Alright, first up, Uriah,” Tori said.

“Wish me luck,” Uriah said as he stood up.

“Good luck,” I said.

Tris slid closer to me to talk. “What's going on between you two?”

“Nothing, why?”

“You like him,” Christina sung from the other side of Tris.

“No,” I said, shooting her a death glare as she leaned into Will's shoulder.

“Sure you don't,” Tris said. I leaned back against the wall and shut my eyes listening to everyone's heavy breathing.

“Alex,” Four said opening the door.

“Why do they always go first?” Peter complained.

“Because they are both willing to admit that they're scared of stuff,” he said. I stood up and followed Four into the room.

“Where's Uriah?” I asked.

“Tori walked him back. There's another exit through the observation room that we're going to start using. This is the part that truly breaks most kids,” Four said.

“So is this going to be like my deepest darkest fear or what?” I asked.

“This is going to be like your smallest most insignificant fear,” he said, injecting the serum into my neck.

Suddenly, I was laying on my back with a bright light over me. There was a pinching in my arm that caused me to start screaming. There was another pinch in my leg. My body started to shake and I started screaming as another needle was stuck into my arm. My breathing was constricted. I started hyperventilating. Breath. Nothing. Try again. Nothing. I couldn't breath. Tightness gathered in my chest. Nothing. My air supply was cut off. Black dots. My vision was going. Gasp. Still, nothing.

My vision went black.

The lights in the Fear Landscape room were shining in my eyes as I started gasping for air.

“Alex, breathe. Breathe,” Four said. “Nikki.”

Gasp. Footsteps. Gasp. A woman kneeling by my head. Gasp.

“Alex, I need you to breath for me,” her voice was calm and smooth.

“Alex, Nikki is a nurse. She's gonna help you,” Four said.

“Alex hon,” she said smoothly.

“Sweet talking him won't work,” Four said. I stopped listening to them and started breathing normally on my own.

“It was a panic attack. They're completely normal,” Nikki said.

“Alex, let's talk,” Four said. Nikki left us to ourselves and went back to the observation room.

“Needles,” I said quietly.

“Tori's got the next one. Let's get you back to your dorm,” Four said.

“Where's Uriah?” I asked softly as Four helped me to my feet.

“Waiting for you in your dorm,” he said.

“I just got light headed,” I said, leaning into Four.

“C'mon,” he said, picking me up. He carried me back to the dorm in complete silence and laid me on my bed. Uriah was sitting on my foot locker, waiting for me.
