Only a few hours after we laid down, AJ was crying. I rolled out of bed and grabbed a hoodie since the air was frigid.

"Don't worry baby," I cooed as I picked him up. "Daddy's here."

I started talking to him as I changed his diaper. I want cooing, but talking to him like he understood. Luckily, he feel asleep quickly and I got to return to my bed.

"Baby boy, who were you talking to just now?" Uriah asked as I laid down and cuddled closer to him.

"Hmm," I responded.

"Just now. I heard you talking to someone in the twins room," he said.

"Oh, I was talking to AJ," I said. "I, uh, don't judge me, but when I was in Erudite, volunteering with Abnegation, I overheard some pediatricians discussing a study they had been conducting about parents who talk to the babies versus cooing to them. I guess talking to them like they're going to respond, it, uh, helps them in the future. I guess they start talking earlier. I heard reading to them helps too."

"So what you're saying is you wanna raise geniuses here in Dauntless?" Uriah asked.

"No I'm wanna raise kids who are able to talk to us. I want our kids to have a bond established early on that allows them to talk to us. I want," I paused for a minute. "Well, now that I've thought about this, I probably sound like a complete idiot."

"No you don't baby boy. You only sound like half an idiot," Uriah responded.

"Ha. Ha. Very funny," I said.

"I thought so," he said. I rolled my eyes before leaning up to kiss his lips. Of course, Uriah took that as an invitation to deepen the kiss and roll us so he was hovering over me.

"Baby," he mumbled, and almost instantly Maeve started crying.

"Remind me again why we adopted these two little angels," Uriah said.

"Cause we want a family and we can't exactly make our own," I said.

"I'm going to check on her," he said.

"You sure, because I can do it," I said, but he was already headed down the hallway.

I could hear him through the baby monitor as he walked in. "Hey, Maeve-a-doodle. Daddy said that talking to you is going to help you talk sooner. I hope he's right. The sooner you can talk the easier this will be on us."

I started laughing at Uriah.

"I can hear you Alex," Uriah said.

"Love you babe," I yelled back.

"Love you too," he said. A few minutes later, he returned to our bedroom and crawled into bed beside me.

"Goodnight, Alex. I'll see you in the morning," he said, kissing the top of my head as he pulled me into his arms.

"Are we eating in the cafeteria?" I asked.

"Yeah, of course. I mean no one actually eats in their own place," he said.

"Well, sometimes family dinner's are nice," I retaliated.

"Maybe sometimes," he said.

"Speaking of family, how's everything with your mom and David?" I asked.

"Mom left David. She's been staying with Zeke and Shauna until she can file for divorce and get her own place. She's taking full custody of Kyle," Uriah explained.

"Good, I'm happy for her," I said.

"Me too, baby, me too," he said.

"I love you, babe," I said, cuddling into his chest and placing a kiss on his bare skin.
