❝it's complicated❞"And here's, finally, the training room," Connor says with a smile.
After showing Cassandra around the house, she concluded it was a normal, five bedroom house. She had to admit, it was bigger than most but it was normal. It had a kitchen, a lounge, a dining room, a hallway, stairs, two bathrooms and finally the training room—the only element of the house that wasn't standard.
Connor opens up the simple wooden door that was under the main set of stairs, which then led down to a set of smaller stairs down to the basement.
"After you," Connor smiles, moving to the side for Cassandra to walk down the steps, before following her.
The room was large—Cassandra was pretty sure it was the perimeter of the house—and was full of various types of drawers. Along one side of a wall, were mirrors, and the wall opposite that was cabinets that she assumed full of weapons. There were swords and guns and knives hanging up on the far left wall to her and the final wall was empty, since that's where the stairs descended to.
"You'll probably spend a lot of time here," Connor says, giving her a smile. "Training, mostly."
"What exactly am I training for?" Cassandra asked, curious as she looked in the mirror. Her hair was a brown mess and her shoulders were slouched.
Connor sighs, not sure how to tell her without putting her off. If he was to be truthful, she'd be training t defend herself against some of the most powerful people ever, who, in the click of their fingers, could kill armies.
"You'll find out soon enough."
"Okay," Cassandra nods. It fell silent then, thoughts filling both of their heads. Connor couldn't take his eyes off of her as she looked around the large, simplistic room. "How'd you decide I was this special person you've spent ages finding?"
"What?" Connor coughs, snapping out of his trance. "Oh, yeah. When we were in the hotel, and there was that mould on the handle."
"What about it?"
"It wasn't there before and it wasn't there when you came back either. You created that," Connor explains.
"You're saying I have some kind of powers like you guys?"
"Yes," Connor says. "But it gets more complicated than that."
"How so?"
Before Connor had the chance to reply, the basement swung open and Tristan was standing there. The pair looked up at him instantly, alarmed.
"Joe's back early."

Connor was in front and behind Connor was Cassandra, behind Cassandra was Tristan. The three of them spotted Brad standing outside of the lounge, leaning against the door.
"There you are," he sighs, only looking at Tristan and Connor. Cassandra looked down at the floor awkwardly. "Joe's in the lounge. Thought I'd wait out here for you all."
"Is he nice?" Cassandra pipes up and the boys look at her strangely. "You know: is Joe nice?"
"Uh. . . you could say that, though it's a bit of an understatement," Connor shrugs, opening the door that Brad was leaning against a moment ago, revealing a middle aged man with brown hair, stubble and a cup of tea in his hands.
"Ah, Boys! Lovely to see you again," Joe grins and stands up, engulfing them all in a huge hug, only then noticing Cassandra. "You're the girl they were on about. What was your name again?"
"Cassandra," Tristan speaks before she has the chance to even speak. The three boys could all hear her heart hammering against her chest as her cheeks slowly reddened.
"Cassandra, you sound exactly like Tristan," Joe remarks sarcastically and Cassandra laughs under her breath.
"How come your back so early?" Connor asks. "You said you wouldn't be back for a few days."
"Nothing was happening and you guys know how much of a thrill seeker I am." Joe admits, "So I cancelled what I was doing and I came here."
"We can start the tests sooner, then?" Connor asks, anxious and excited that they're getting closer to finally getting James back.
"Tomorrow will be the first run through," Joe says, sitting down on the sofa. The three boys and Cassandra all stood in the middle of the room. "We'll make sure her blood pressure is okay, do a scan and then take an extract of her blood."
"Then what?" Cassandra asks.
"A couple of days after we'll do some more tests whilst your sedated—elementums sleep differently to normal, standard humans," Joe explains. Cassandra assumed that elementums is what the three boys before her were called. "If they were to sleep as normal then they may end up setting the house on fire or drowning everybody, so the brain trained itself to sleep differently.
"For now, I recommend sleeping. Tomorrow you'll be tested and after that it will be a mixture of training and tests," Joe says, cracking his knuckles as he leans back against the sofa. "And that goes to all of you. Be off."
They all nod and move out in a straight line. As expected, Cassandra was nervous and anxious and confused; everything just seemed to be happening so fast, like a blur.
"Hey, Cassandra," Tristan says, grabbing her attention. "Follow me, I have something cool to show you."
"I don't know. . . I'm pretty exhausted," She contemplates but Tristan rolls his eyes and lightly takes her hand.
"I found this place when I first came here," Tristan explains, the pair walking up the stairs. "It's not a secret, really, but it helped my calm my nerves when I got frustrated because I couldn't do something."
Tristan leads them both through his room, which had the same basic layout as Cassandra's. A single bed in the middle, a nightstand on either side, a cabinet for clothes and a toilet room just by it. The main bathroom was to be shared for everyone on the second floor, which was herself and the three boys. The only difference was he had a balcony which she noticeably didn't in her room.
"You're going to get frustrated and this is going to provoke a lot of emotion," Tristan says, opening the balcony door, the wind fishes through rapidly, "Because it isn't easy trying to control the power I have, let alone four times that."
"How come I've never noticed before?" Cassandra asks, rubbing her arms as she grew increasingly colder. "That I have these powers."
"You haven't learnt the extremes of your power, or anything, really," Tristan shrugs. "Your body is slowly releasing the energy built up inside of you without it being obvious to everyone."
"So it's complicated?" She concludes with a small laugh, causing Tristan to smile.
"Very."
