❝the way to my heart❞They set off after noon that day, everyone had their stuff packed. Cassandra and Brad took her truck, Brad driving, while Connor and Tristan took Tris' Jeep.
They had been driving for no longer than ten minutes and Cassandra was growing increasingly bored. She reaches over to turn the radio on but Brad shifts her hand out of the way, "Hey! This is my truck, I get to say what plays on the radio."
"And who's driving?" He raises his eyebrows. "Last time I checked, I am, so I get to choose if there's music or not."
She rolls her eyes, a small smile on her face as she glances out the window. Brad looks over at her before flickering his eyes back to the road. He could hear her strong, steady heartbeat.
"Are you nervous?" She asks the boy. "To get James back, I mean."
"I feel like if I was too nervous, I wouldn't be able to do what I'm doing right now," Brad shrugs. "So no, not really. I've waited five years to get him back, and I'm so ready for it."
She places her hand over his which gripped the steering wheel, "we'll get him back, and you can all rest. You need it."
He smiles gratefully at her before the silent consumes them. It was comfortable and Brad found it easier to concentrate on driving.
"Have you ever had road head?" She asks out of curiosity. He choked on his breath, coughing to compose himself.
"No," he replies, watching the girl smile. "Not that it matters to you, anyway."
"I was only asking," she smiles innocently, a small laugh escaping her lips. "I wonder why people do it, really. It's a bit dangerous, don't you think?"
"Yeah," Brad glances over at the girl, rolling his eyes. "I liked you a lot better when you were silent."
"Don't lie, you love hearing me talk," she grins and the boy doesn't reply and pretends to concentrate on the road, causing her grin to grow.
Brad notices Tristan pulling into a service station and he frowns, following him. They park up by each other and Brad gets out to meet the two boys who were also stood outside their cars.
"What's going on?" Brad asks, Cassandra watching from her seat.
"Connor wanted something to eat," Tristan rolls his eyes and Brad sighs. "You two coming with us?"
"Yeah, let me get Cassie," he nods, walking around to her door and asking her to roll the window down. "Want some food?"
"You know the way to my heart."
She climbs out of the car and lets Brad take her hand, holding her close. A few people glanced at them but no one really stared. They assumed the pair were in a relationship but it was Facebook status, "it's complicated".
