With every murder case, comes an investigation, and a detective that is signed to the case. The detective signed to Noah's open case, was a man named Peter Holmes. He was very good at his job and he had high hopes that they would find the burglar and the man or woman who had murdered their young son.For the first few days after the murder, the house became a crime scene and the whole back spare bedroom was roped off with tape, and they were not allowed to go back there until after all the evidence was collected, once it was Stephen had changed out the carpet with new carpet and the back bedroom was just like a silent vacant room that no body cared to go into.
There was actually a lot of evidence left behind, for the boys were not wearing any gloves and although their were not many fingerprints to find there were a few. They were left on the chair that the boys had used to break the back window and rush out of. The boys were not as smart as they had thought. The only bad thing was finding the boys whose fingerprints were all over that chair. luckily for them they were still in high school, none of them had ever been to jail, or even had a good job before, and when their fingerprints through the national system of fingerprints, nothing had come up yet.
Tommy still had the gun with him for weeks after the shooting. He wasn't sure how he should safely get rid of it. So many things were going through his mind and the last thing he wanted was to get caught. He decided the safest way to sell it would be on the black market online, this way he could make a profit and it would end up in someone else's hands and maybe then they wouldn't be able to trace it back to him.
He ended up selling in the dark-net on a website where you can illegally buy and sell guns and drugs and other illegal items like that. By doing this it ended up in the hands of another murderer who happened to be in the fingerprint system. When he got caught the detective brought him in for the murder of Noah. Unfortunately, his fingerprints were on the gun but they didn't match the other fingerprints that were on the chair that broke the window, and also a smudge of fingerprints that did match the chair, were also on the gun so they knew he must not be the killer who murdered Noah.
They decided to investigate him anyways to find out where he found the gun and how he got a hold of the murder weapon.
He simply told them that he bought it on the dark web on a website called, " buyillegalgunsnmore.net"
From a man who's username was called MadMan001. They knew that this must be the murderer they were looking for. So the detective then began to search the internet and use all of his software to find out if they could trace the MadMan001 to the man who killed Noah.This evidence made Stephen feel hopeful that they would soon find the murderer of his son. He was in the furious stage now about it all and all he wanted was some justice and for the man to be put in prison, where he belonged to be for the rest of his life.
Three months went on by... and they still hadn't found the killer. Detective Peter was still hopeful he would crack the case and he constantly checked up on Stephen and Anna Lynn, sometimes he would even drive by their house and be a watch dog. Thankfully though, things were starting to look up when Tommy finally got his drivers license.
Tommy was turning 18, and finish in high school, when his parents forced him to start looking for a job. He didn't have much experience and they promised him if he got a job they would buy him a used but like new car. He was ecstatic and decided he better go down to the DPS office and get his drivers license as soon as possible.
So Tommy did go get his drivers license as soon as he could after school one day, he had his friend Blake drive him up there, and they waited in line for hours. When he finally got up to the counter they scanned his face and took a picture of it like they usually did and also got a copy of his fingerprint and then they took down all of his information, and saw he had passed all his tests, and then they told him he would receive his new drivers license through the mail within a week.
Tommy, though never had enough time to even get to see it, before the police were knocking on his door.
"Is there a Thomas Rider Carter living here" the police banged on the door until soon his mother answered. It was four o'clock in the afternoon.
" Yes. There is." She answered confused and in complete shock.
" Is he here now." They questioned her. They looked so serious and even kind of mean, this scared her a bit.
" Why are you here...?" But before she could finish they were pushing her out of the way...
"We have a search warrant and arrest warrant for your son, step out of the way miss!" They exclaimed as they pushed her aside and intruded into her home.
The police easily found Tommy in his room as he was playing some gruesome x rated video game in his room. He didn't even know what was going on before they were putting him in handcuffs and taking him out of the house into the cop car, as they were reading him his Miranda rights.
"Thomas Carter, You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to speak to an attorney, and to have an attorney present during any questioning. Do you understand these rights?" They stated.
"Mom!" He was fighting them now, trying not to be pushed into the car." " You can't let them take me!"
His mother just stared out of the door horrified.She began to scream at one of the cops. "Please. Stop! Why are you taking my son?" She was begging the cops to tell her at least something.
The cop She asked replied. " Your son is being arrested for the murder of Noah Hamilton." She couldn't believe what he was even saying. 'Her son? How could it be' was all she could think. She wanted to tell her son before they had gotten him into the back of the car not to say anything without a lawyer present, because she knew he may need one, but she didn't have enough time. Before she could muster a sound the cops were driving away with Tommy.
When the detective got the news of the arrest of Tommy, he immediately had him brought in and interrogated, and it was such a frightening experience for Tommy, that soon the whole story was on the table of what really happened the night Noah got murdered. Without his lawyer even prefer he ended up confessing it was him who shot Noah, but he made sure he brought all his friends down too. Soon, after that, they were all arrested also and taken out of school, one by one, each in handcuffs the next morning.
Once this all went down, the detective decided it was time to call Stephen and let him know he had a crack in the case and that this time he was sure they had found the murderer and all of culprits. Stephen was in tears and they began to stream down his face when he heard the news. He felt so many things all at once, grief, happiness, but above all Anger.
He honestly wanted to kill Tommy himself. As Tommy stood trial along with the other boys, a month later, Tommy looked and acted as if he had no remorse whatsoever for killing Noah. His eyes were deep and black looking and he stared at the court and even Stephen as if he had done nothing wrong. He didn't even say it was an accident. The other boys, they shared their empathy and James even wrote a sorry letter for him to read in court, but it was rejected and Stephen never got to hear it.
Tommy was sentenced to life in prison, he had just turned 18, with a first degree murder on his hands along with burglary charges, James was sentenced to twenty years in prison for second degree murder on his hands, with burglary charges also. The other two boys, Blake and Jordan, got away with Class A Misdemeanor charges, and they walked away from court that day.
The news played the story over and over again on the television, for it was a tragic story of teenage burglars who shot a three year old boy, and hadn't even gotten any loot out of it.
Stephen after that, was glad that they had found the Murderer and he was felt ready to move on with his life, knowing the killer would be locked away for the rest of his life, gave him sort of peace, although he wasn't sure if he could or would ever be able to forgive him any of those boys, in his heart.
He also decided it was time for something new in his life and Anna Lynn's. So he proceeded into a new phase of life for them. Together where they could be safe from harms way.
