The Interviews

Stephen posted a craigslist post looking for a good working nurse for Fate. This is what the post said.

' Hello. I am Mr. Hamilton. I am in dire need of a full time home nurse for my wife Fate. She is in her late twenties and she has fallen ill and is on best rest and in some kind of sleep like induced coma at the moment. I need a hard working lady. The days and hours are long, from 4am in the morning till late in the evening around 7pm. I am looking for someone who can also clean and cook. A person who is strong, that can also bathe and keep Fate looking her best, for that's what I think she would like. Someone who can administer medicine if needed. Also I would like someone with good Christian morals and values, a lady my daughter who is only five can look up too.

No men please. Thank you very much for reading. Mr. Hamilton.'

After a few hours after posting floods of ladies wanting the job came in. So he thought he would go ahead and start interviewing as soon as tomorrow.
He took a few days off from his job to have time to do it and he started from the beginning of the long list.

The first nurse that came to the house for her interview was a lady named Jana. She was kind of an old lady in her early forties, but she had a lot of experience so he was pretty hopeful. He thought to himself maybe she would be the one. But normally you don't find who you are looking for on the first try but who knows?

" So your name is Jana. You can call me Mr.Hamilton, or Stephen whatever you would like."

"Yes Sir." She replied sternly with a very maybe even too serious sort of face.

" So why do you think you are right for this job."

" Honestly She said... " I have a lot of experience working with the elderly. Not saying, your wife sounds old, but... anyways I spent many years working as a nurse for an emergency room when I was young, and then eventually I ended up in a nursing home. This job seems pretty, well, simple and easy for a woman my age. And I think I would be good at it."

" Okay." "You say this job seems easy and simple, I totally disagree with that statement. I don't mean to be rude but this may be a short interview. This job will require you to work a lot. You will need to know how to cook and clean as well as keeping an eye on Fate as well as bathe her often, so you will need to be pretty strong, although I could help you and wouldn't mind after I come home from work. I am needing all those things and am willing to pay a lot for the right person. Do you think this job still seems easy? Could you handle all of this responsibility?"

" Well I can do it if I put my mind to it... I believe."

" Okay. Well that's all I have for the interview for today. Thank you Jana I will be calling you soon to let you know if you get the job."

He wasn't so sure about this Jana. I mean she said the job was simple and easy? Like what?

The next interview was with a lady named Kate. She was very very young. Still in her early twenties. And to be honest we don't even need to go into details, but extremely hot as well. She walked into the room in a mini skirt for heavens sake. And it made Stephen very uncomfortable, he wasn't even sure he should go on interviewing her, for he knew Fate would not like it at all if she was here.

"So you look uhm..." Stephen hesitated then said. "Very young...Do you have any previous experience working for a job like this?"

"Of course I Do." She replied. " I just finished college last year and I am ready to start finding a job."

"All right. What about previous employers?" He asked.

"Well I haven't actually gotten my first job yet. This would be my very first." She smiled, man where her teeth white, Stephen thought to himself.

" Well, I am kind of looking for someone with a bit more uh, work history. But why do you think this job fits you." He said point blank.

"Well I am young..."she said, which he already knew that by just looking at her... " and I am able to do just about anything." She wasn't very intelligent, so she kept all her answers short. Then she winked at Stephen.

"Hmmm...Okay then. That about sums it up. Thanks for stopping by, I will call you as soon as I have decided to hire." He ended the conversation there.

On the second day of searching he interviewed a woman named Kara. She was in her early thirties. She walked in wearing some work scrubs. As soon as she saw Stephen she began talking, like literally.

" Hi. Mr. Hamilton! I am so excited to be here, and am so glad you called me so soon for this interview." She exclaimed as she took his hand and began to shake it.

"And your name is...?"he asked, honestly he was already tired of giving interviews by this point and he was only three people in.

"Oh, my name is Kara, Kara Pierce... sorry I don't know where my mind went. Oh, and please excuse my clothing I just got home from working a late hour shift and didn't really have enough time to change into anything else." She said feeling awkward now and a little dumb for not saying her name right away.
She was hoping Stephen didn't think she was stupid now.

"It's fine." He replied then pulled out a chair across from his couch where he was sitting. "Please sit down. Now I have just a few simple questions to ask...First off, why did this job seem to catch your interest? You said you just got home from working? Are you looking for a new job? Or just thinking about working two jobs?" He was curious.

"Oh, well Yes, I am in the process of finding a new job, I am not super loving working shift work and all nighters, especially and No, I don't think I can handle two full time jobs at the moment. Also this job catches my attention because well it fits what I am looking for and good at almost perfectly. I am a strong Christian and when I read the post about having good morals and values and working with children, it sounded very intriguing. And by the way I am so sorry about your wife? I don't know what exactly happened? But I am sure it must be horrible and traumatic, I couldn't even imagine what you guys have been going through." She said very concerned.

" Yes, it has been very hard on us, especially Anna Lynn, that's my daughter. She just lost her brother... and now her mom..." he trailed off for a moment and looked away but then he remembered that he was still conducting an interview so he went on. " I can tell you must have read the whole post I wrote."

" I sure did." She began " I am a okay cook, but I can clean everything, even do laundry if you need it done. I want you to know I am a big family person, if I get this job I am sorta hoping it will last a while because I like tend to make jobs my life. But if not that's all right. Honestly, the post broke my heart, and I know I can do the job, and I just want to help, really, do something meaningful, that will add some sort of purpose to my life, you know what I am saying?" She was very friendly lady. Stephen actually kind of liked this One. But she seemed to talk a lot more than he expected.

" Well I am willing to pay good money for the right person for this job. I really need someone whom I can hold accountable and someone with a good reputation and someone preferably with a good attitude and who is responsible. My wife right now doesn't need to much hands on care but in case she ever did, it would be nice to find someone who can handle all of that. I am hoping she will be waking soon..." he said hopeful and smiling now.

"Well money is always a good thing." She laughed but then said seriously... " look I promise you this, Mr. Hamilton I would not have came to this interview if I didn't know I could do the whole job and do it right." She said matter of factly. "you can count on me. And trust me." Kara ended the conversation with that last piece is what made Stephen very intrigued and he thought to himself. Thank God, this is the girl who will become Fate's nurse.

As he shook her hand goodbye he decided suddenly, you know what he was gonna go ahead and hire her. He could call back the other applicants later, he needed someone to start as soon as possible. So right as she was walking out to her car, he stopped her and yelled, " Hey Kara! Please Wait. When can you start?"

He arrived at her car and she just beamed with a smile. "4am Tomorrow morning sound good to you Mr. Hamilton?" She asked.

" Yes! That would be awesome." He said now he was smiling too.
