Chapter Four
I’ve been here for almost a month now, and I had long since accepted that things were messed up. I was obviously in London but somehow three years into the past. Since seeing Pat in my second dream, I knew he had done this. I didn’t know how, but he had, and I trusted anything that he said, even if the dream him turned out to be some sort of figment of my imagination.
I’d been working for Callie for about three weeks, ever since about a week after I met her, and I was finally starting to get the hang of things. I never had that much to do seeing as I was the assistant’s assistant but the pay’s good and I needed something to pay off my rent for my apartment, the one Callie had helped me find.
Right now I was making copies, not very exhilarating, I know, but at least I had been semi-promoted from Coffee and Bagel Girl.
Albeit to Copy Girl, but somewhat promoted all the same.
I was pretty much in my own little world while making copies, thinking about how my laundry needed to be washed, my rent bill needed to be paid, how I needed to renew my Oyster card – just the little things – when a loud screeching noise came, followed by three long beeps.
Only one word came to my mind; shit.
One look inside the copier told me that one of the papers must’ve gotten jammed because all I saw was a giant mess of smeared ink and crumpled papers. By the time I pulled them free, I knew I was going to have re-do them all over again. Double shit.
I moaned at the sight of them and instantly started off to find Callie. She was not going to be pleased with me. We had just started filming boot camp and she was busier than ever, what with helping Simon, and she definitely didn’t need me pestering her with problems like this. I seemed to be screwing up more and more often. If it wasn’t the copying machine, it was the printing machine. If it wasn’t the wrong coffee orders, it was the bagels. Every little thing I was told to do I seemed to screw up, and it was happening more and more frequently.
As I flipped through page after page, I realized that there wasn’t one decent copy and even the original version got screwed up. I let another groan escape my lips but before I could start on another internal rant I smashed into something hard. I stumbled backwards, and before I could catch my balance, I tripped over my own feet and fell down flat on my butt, dropping every piece of paper in the process.
“Oh, shit,” I groaned again, voicing my thoughts this time, clearly expressing my over use of the word shit for about the billionth time today.
My immediate instinct was to get up off my butt, which I was pretty sure I bruised, but the farthest I could manage was my knees. I quickly rummaged around for every piece of paper I could find, my brain going through every worst case scenario possible for my predicament. I knew for a fact Callie needed these a half hour ago and I’d be even later now that I’d have to re-do them all. It sure as hell didn’t help that I barely even knew my way around the stadium. Or arena. Studio? I didn’t know what the hell it was called; all I knew is that I needed to fix this mess and fast.
“Here.” Before I could even register what was happening, a hand placed about ten more papers onto the pile I was holding, a hand that certainly didn’t belong to me. “You forgot a few.”
I was completely embarrassed about everything that had just happened, especially because it had happened and in front of somebody else, but I was thankful for the help nonetheless.
"Thanks,” I leaned forward and pushed myself up off the ground, as much as it pained me, and brushed the dirt off my butt. I instantly began reorganizing all the sheets. “Sorry about running into you by the way. I’m a bit of a klutz and I wasn’t really –“ I stopped mid-sentence when I looked up.
