Quick little note: The fact that Cassidy doesn't have family right now SERVES A PURPOSE. It's not just cause I was like "ooo I dont wanna put in effort so look at how convienient this is for everyone if they just were dead" NO TRUST ME I HATE THAT JUST AS MUCH AS YOU DO. It'll come together at some point.
Chapter Ten
“So it’s all settled then?”
“Yes, I guess so. We leave on Wednesday.”
“God, Charlie, I’m so happy for you.”
"Me, too. I want to thank you, Cass, for being there for me and Eileen.”
“I’ll always be here for you two.”
“I’ll call you when we find out about more progress.”
“You promise?”
“I promise. See you around, Cassidy.”
I hung up the phone and couldn’t help but grin. Charlie and Eileen were moving away from London, and going to get treatment. I didn’t know when I’d ever see them again, but I was hoping that it would be in much easier times for them.
“Shit,” I glanced at the clock noticing the time ticking down. I was going out for dinner with my boyfriend and to say I was nervous was an understatement. We hadn’t been dating for very long, and even though I’d been on a few dates with him before, this one felt different. All of our past dates had been simple and casual, while this one was more on the formal side.
I was dressed in a simple black dress that cut just above my knees with lace sleeves. The skirt swooshed when I walked and although to some girls it was fairly casual, it was the fanciest thing I owned. But I couldn’t find my shoes anywhere. I owned one pair of black heels and they were currently MIA. I had gone to hell and back to tear apart my room, so much so that the floor was no longer visible.
As I climbed over to the other side of the room, I tripped over my shopping bags from earlier, spilling the contents, and not expecting to see what I saw. I had bought a few shirts, a sweater, and that was it. But for some reason there was a box. Frowning in confusion, I took off the lid, and couldn’t help but grin down.
On top of the mustard yellow converse was a note from Louis that read, “I couldn’t let you spend your own money on something as unappealing as these, so think of it as a friend ‘appreciation’ gift. No need to pay me back, just a birthday present beyond extraordinary will do. Enjoy your funny yellow shoes. – L”
“They’re yellow.”
“Exactly.”
“It’s not even a nice yellow. It’s like . . . mustard.”
“But have you seen anyone else with a pair like them?”
“No.”
“Exactly.”
“You’re strange, Cassie, but buy your atrocious shoes if you must.”
"I will. And somebody’s being a little over dramatic today.”
He shrugged his shoulders. “I can’t help it. We’re at the mall and not once has anybody tried to smuggle a birthday present for me. I hope you realize it’s in three days.”
I rolled my eyes. “Yes, Lou, you remind me every five minutes.” After digging through my purse and finding no wallet, I realized I was going to be SOL. “Crap, Zayn still has my wallet. You stay here and guard the shoes and I’ll go find him.”
