Chapter Twenty-Four
"Hello?"
. . .
"Anyone there?"
"Niall-" I let out a choked sob before covering my mouth with my hand.
"Cassidy? Are you okay?"
"I-I read the letters, Niall. All twenty-four of them."
. . .
"Y-you did?"
"I-I did."
"You didn't have to, you know. I actually had thought that you threw them all out."
"I would never throw them out."
"If the situation was different I'm sure you would have."
"Regardless of the situation, I would've kept them. You mean something to me, Niall, you need to understand that."
"Lately it hasn't really been feeling that way."
. . .
"I'm sorry for that. You came to me with your feelings and I didn't do anything to help. I was too caught up in my own world being stupidly oblivious."
"Stop it, Cassidy. None of this is your fault. In fact, if it wasn't for you, Louis wouldn't have talked to me."
"I know but . . ."
. . .
"I love you, Cassidy, and I'm thankful for everything that you've done. You need to stop feeling guilty."
"Right, right. I just want you to be happy."
"I'm trying. You know that."
"I know . . ."
. . .
"So what have you been doing?" I tried to lighten the mood by switching the subject.
"Band stuff."
"When does your album come out?"
"November."
"I'm excited to hear it."
"Thanks. We haven't gotten a lot of the songs done but a few of them are recorded."
"What have you been doing in your free time? I heard Liam's been staying with you these past few days."
"He's been having Danielle problems."
"Does this have something to do with the secret he told you on tour?"
. . .
"Sort of. I can't really say much."
"I understand. Anything else I'm missing out on?"
"I - um . . . never mind."
"What?"
"It's nothing."
"Come on, Niall, you know you can tell me."
"I know . . . it's just kind of embarrassing."
. . .
"I'm waiting, Nialler."
"Fine. The other day I was fooling around with my guitar and I ended up writing a song."
"Nialler!"
"Tone down the screeching, you're not a dolphin."
"Sorry, it's just - you - I - it's like -"
