Chapter Fourteen

The next morning I woke up on the couch by myself with a massive headache, the kind that you only ever get after crying your heart out. Seeing the aspirin and glass of water on the table, I reached out and swallowed the blue pill.

I didn’t know where Louis had gone, his absence duly noted. I checked the clock on the wall reading 11:30. 11:30?

“Morning,” I looked up from the couch to see Louis walking in from the kitchen, “How did you sleep?”

I shrugged my shoulders and stared down at my fingers absentmindedly playing with the loose threads of the blanket.

“Hopefully it’ll get better, which I’m sure it will. The first nights are always the hardest.”

My sleep had actually been really good, and I was beginning to question if it had something to do with the fact that a certain brown haired boy slept with me the whole night through.

“If you come into the kitchen, I’ve made a bit of breakfast.”

Following him into said room, I pulled up a chair at the table and took a seat. Through the window I could see the rain still in a torrential downpour similar to the day prior, the sky’s cloudy demeanor the same gray depressing colour.

"You know, you didn’t have to stay the whole time. I know I’m not exactly the greatest person to share a bed with, especially when I’m an emotional wreck. Next time, well I hope there isn’t a next time, but next time, you don’t have to stay.”

"The key word being ‘have to’. I don’t think either of us really have a say in it. It’s in the job description. Just something a best friend does without question. Besides, it was nice having a snuggle-buddy for once.”

“Well, I’m still sorry if I woke you up through the night. Especially if I was the cause of why you’re up now.”

He let a soft laugh escape his lips and sat down beside me. “Nah, I had to be up anyways. I’m waiting for the wicked fairy god-mother and her wrath to appear.”

“What?”

A series of loud rapid knocks against the front door were heard. “Ah, speak of the devil.”

“Louis, you better open this door right now! I know you’re in there!”

“Is that . . . is that Harry?

Nodding his head, he took a sip of tea. “Why, I believe it is. You can let him in, if you’d like.”

The minute I had the door unlocked and open, a curly-headed ball of rage burst through. “Cassidy! Where is he!?”

I simply pointed to the kitchen, trying to supress my laughter by biting my lip, and followed him in.

“Of course you’re here, just sipping your tea, without a care in the whole world! Do you even realize the kind of damage control I had to do for the crap you pulled last night!?”

“Harry, would you just calm down? Sit and have a cup of tea.”

“No, Louis, I will not! Do you even understand how long it took me to convince her to go out on a date with you!? She was extremely skeptical, what with the fame and all, and when I finally convinced her that you were a good bloke who had interest in her, she got excited! And then you ditch with barely saying goodbye!”

“I’m sorry, Harry, but what do you want me to do about it? I never wanted to go out on that date in the first place and besides, there were some things that Cassie and I needed to discuss. If you want, I’ll ring her up and apologize to Elizabeth.”
