Epilogue
When my eyes fluttered open, the first thing running through my mind was confusion. Instead of seeing forest sky I was looking up at a white ceiling. Was I home?
It was quiet, almost too quiet, but I could hear the shower running and someone softly humming a tune.
Cassidy?
It had to be her, right? I lived with Cassidy, I mean, who else could it be? The room looked similar to ours - the only difference was that the walls were white instead of the blue I was so normally used to.
When did she paint this?
But then I remembered the last thing that happened to Cassidy and after that it's like my mind shut off every memory. I couldn't remember anything. And if I was being honest it was scaring the shit out of me.
Was she okay?
I slowly sat up and at that same exact moment the bathroom door opened. I stared with wide eyes as a brunette around my height came walking out with only a towel around her. Who the hell is she?
"Morning, babe," she smiled. I just stared, wide-eyed as a deer caught in headlights, as she grabbed a set of clothes off the dresser and slipped back into the bathroom. "I'm just going to get changed. I'll be out in a minute!"
I took this as my chance to get out. I was clearly confused, because nothing that I was seeing made any sense.
The rest of the flat was different. The kitchen and the living room were on opposite sides and the TV was in the left corner instead of the right. Pictures were hung on the walls and end tables, showcasing me and some brunette instead of a blonde. This wasn't right. It couldn't be.
"Babe? Are you okay? You seem really jittery. Is everything alright?"
My head whipped around to this girl. This girl who didn't strike any sort of recognition into my brain.
"Cassidy?" I slightly whispered, hoping that somehow my question could lead to some sort of an explanation.
"Cassidy?" She shook her head. "Who's Cassidy?"
"Cassidy," I spoke slowly, trying not to hyperventilate, "my girlfriend. Where is she?"
I could see a flash of hurt run through her eyes. "Y-Your girlfriend? But, L-Lou - babe, I'm your girlfriend, Eleanor."
Now it was my turn to shake my head. "You're not my girlfriend. I don't even know who the hell you are."
"Are you sure you're okay? You must've hit your head last night. You had been drinking a lot. Come back to bed -" Her hand reached out to grab mine.
I jerked back. "No, like I said I don't know who the hell you are. Now, where is Cassidy? Is she alright?"
She gave a nervous laugh - more like a squeak - almost as if she didn't know what to say. "Louis, there is no one named Cassidy." She tried to take another step towards me, causing me to take an even larger step back. Her brown eyes started to tear up. "Y-You don't know who I am?"
"Of course not! Like I said before, I don't know who the fuck you are! You're not my girlfriend - Cassidy is my girlfriend! And I want to know what the hell has happened to her and if she's okay! If the baby's okay!"
"Wh-What are you saying? Is there somebody else?"
"Somebody else? There's not somebody else, there's only Cassie. Why can't you fucking understand that!?"
