To make up for the last REALLY bad chapter
I sat in my room, flipping a coin. I can't believe I almost cried in front of the guys and El! I thought, bitterly. My coin flipped to heads. I smiled faintly. Suddenly I heard a knock on my window. Lucas! I walked over and swung open my curtains. Lucas was sitting on his bike. I frowned and pulled the curtains shut again. Lucas knocked again. Fiiiiine! I opened them again and pulled my window open.
"What?" I asked, sharply.
Lucas reached out his hand. He had pleading eyes. He looked so vulnerable. How could I say no? I let out a sigh and raised my index finger. I slid back into my room and grabbed a backpack. I filled the backpack with clothes and other supplies. I shuffled awkwardly out of the window and sat on his bike.
"We're meeting the guys and El at the fort." Lucas informed.
I just nodded. Lucas biked to the woods. We rode on the train tracks. I tried not to think about how this was my first time being alone with him since the kiss.
"I'm not mad, you know." Lucas murmured.
I jumped. I didn't expect him to say anything. I let out a quiet sigh. I bit my lip, trying to think of what to say. After a moment, I replied.
"I...what do you mean? I never said..." I stammered.
Lucas chuckled softly. Is he laughing at me? Lucas stopped the bike. I looked around, confused. We were in the middle of the forest.
"Maxine! Look, I'm so glad you pulled the move. I was scared I might've had to." Lucas laughed. "You are so amazing, Mad Max. I would be proud to call you my girlfriend...if you want to."
I stared at him in shock. He wants me to be his girlfriend! I pursed my lips. Happy tears pooled in my eyes. The tears ran down my cheek.
"Oh! M-Max! Are you okay?" Lucas asked, concerned.
He reached forward and wiped my tears away with his thumb. I leaned forward and lay my head on his back. I wrapped my arms around his waist.
"I'd be proud to call you my boyfriend, stalker." I replied quietly.
Lucas turned around and kissed my cheek. Then he peddled off. He arrived at the fort a little later. Eleven was sitting on the ground, plucking at the grass. Will and Dustin were throwing leaves up in the air and trying to catch each other's leaf. Mike was pacing back and forth in front the fort. Everyone stopped and watched as we came biking into the clearing. Mike narrowed his eyes as we got off the bike.
"Finally! What's going on? Why did you run away?!" Mike roared.
I let out a sigh. Better tell them now...
