I stood in front of the bike rack as Lucas was unhooking his bike. Lucas finally got his bike undone and he hopped onto it. He pat the seat of the bike. I smiled and got on. I put my hands on his shoulders. My mind flashed back to when I first rode his bike.
"This better be good, stalker." I remember saying as Lucas bikes off towards the bus where Dustin and Steve were waiting.
"C'mon! Let's go, stalker!" I exclaimed.
Lucas laughed and peddled off towards the bus. I sighed happily and looked at the trees as we flew fast down the road. They're going to find out if you keep acting like that. A small voice whispered inside me.
Who and find out what?
Your parents. They'll find out about you a Lucas.
No they won't!
You're already acting giddy and not like yourself.
Why am I talking to myself.
You're practically having an argument with yourself.
Shut up. But, I'm not acting giddy!
Yes you are. You keep day dreaming about Lucas and you're so cuddly!
Okay, maybe I am...How so I stop?!
Go back to being yourself.
"Um...Max?" Lucas's voice snapped me back to the real world.
"Uh yea?" I ask, embarrassed.
"I said, do you wanna stop and grab food before we go to the bus?" Lucas asked, sounding a little confused.
"Oh um...sure!" I replied.
"K." He said quickly and we started biking to the store.
We walked into the store. People turned and looked at us. A few were smiling. Others were whispering to each other and holding their hearts. A few were casting disapproving looks.
"Let's just hurry up and get out of here." I whispered into Lucas's ear.
"Okay. C'mon." He whispered back before grabbing my hand and leading me to the back of the store.
We grabbed some candy and chips off the shelves and walked over to the front desk. I placed the candy and chips on the counter while Lucas got some cash out.
"That will be a total of $7. 25." The store clerk told us.
Lucas handed her the money and she gave us a bag full of our stuff. We nodded in thanks, then made our way out to the bike.
"Bye bye, cuties!" We heard a girl call in a sweet, high pitched voice.
Lucas chuckled. I just rolled my eyes and sat on the bike. I placed my hands on Lucas's shoulders, with the bag of food in my lap. Lucas raced off towards the bus.
Lucas and I parked the bike close to the bus and we went inside. Lucas walked to the ladder and walked up it. I followed him. This is where I first opened up to him... Lucas grabbed the bag and tossed me some candy. I smiled and opened the wrapper.
"I remember when we first had a decent conversation here..." Lucas said, smiling.
"Jesus! Let's not remember that!" I yelled.
Lucas laughed and shoved some chips into his mouth. He looked at me with a big smile and mouth stuffed with chips. I rolled my eyes playfully.
"Lucas, you are such a gentleman." I teased.
Lucas snorted and shoved some chips into my mouth. My eyes widened and I threw some of my chips at him.
"Bfdhdjskdh!" I choked. Lucas laughed and crawled over to me. He pat my back and I coughed up some chips.
"This date seems to be going well." Lucas muttered in a playful tone.
I shoved him and stuck out my tongue. Lucas stuck his tongue out too. I laughed. Lucas just smiled. We just sat there for a while in silence, eating chips and candy.
"I love spending time with you, Mad Max." Lucas said at last.
"I love spending time with you too, stalker." I replied and yawned.
I looked up in the sky to see the sun setting. I started humming quietly to myself. Lucas stood up and brushed chip crumbs off his lap.
"I'll be right back. I gotta pee." Lucas said and walked towards the ladder.
"Thanks for that information that I totally needed to know." I called after him sarcastically.
"Anytime." He replied and disappeared into the bus.
I was left alone. I began to sing The Clash softly. I stared out at the trees and sang a little louder. I closed my eyes and kept on singing. After I finished my song, I opened my eyes to see Lucas sitting directly in front of me with a big smile. My face turned a bright red.
"L-Lucas!" I yelled in shock and embarrassment.
"Who would of thought that Mad Max could sing like an angel." Lucas complemented.
"Uh no!" I protested.
I lay down on my back and looked up at the now dark sky. Lucas lay down beside me. Together we looked up at the sky. I closed my eyes, listening to the sounds of nature. After a while, I heard rustling beside me. I didn't bother to open my eyes, thinking it was just Lucas trying to get comfortable. All of a sudden I left something soft press against my cheek.
My eyes flew open. I saw Lucas kissing me cheek. I inhaled and turned to Lucas, heart racing. I exhaled then pressed my lips against his. I saw Lucas's eyes widen then close. I closed my eyes too. We stayed there for a while, safe in each other's arms.
