I Just Wanted an Account

Th next morning when i woke, it was later than usual. There had already been a run to the grocery store and breakfast was prepared. I hungrily ate and went to sit by the water. It was so beautiul here, i wish i could stay forever. But we couldn't because stupid reality would come into play and our stolen money would run out, and we would have to get jobs.

I got up to walk to the gathering area. It was like our living room. Jake was taking some wolves out for a run to stretch their legs. I watched as they raced to the edge of the forest pushing eachother down to try to get to the lead, laughing the entire way.

I spotted Nate and went to sit beside him, he was drawing things in the sand with the tip of a knife. I sat down beside him and waited for the silence to engulf us.

"Where'd you get your knife?" I asked trying to start up the conversation.

"I stole it." he said in a husky voice.

I waited for the 'just kidding' to come, and when it didnt, i stared at him and exclaimed "Are you serious?"

He shrugged, "Ive done worse things."

It was easy to forget, but now i remebered the way that everyone treated him at school becasue he had been always getting into trouble. I sat in silence, thinking about how differently he acted when i saw him, compared to the stories that were told about him. A few minutes passed before he spoke again.

"My parents were on vacation, when the old pack got attacked" he whispered. "I wonder what happened to them."

I hadn't really thought about how the others were dealing with knowing their parents were murdered, my parents weren't even involved. I thought of what i should do, i needed to comfort him. I awkwardly patted him on the shoulder.

"You don't have to stay here you know. You could go back and live with your parents." I said.

He shook his head. "I couldn't. Not now, Not after every thing that has happened, everything we've all been through, this is my family now."

I nodded and stood. This conversation was getting a little too deep for me. "I'm heading into town, i figure its best and i go to scout out a way of income if we are planning on staying here for a while."

"Be careful." Was all he said before he got up and left. I ran my fingers through my hair and took a little bit of money and put it in my pocket. I went to my sleeping area, close to the rock and sheltered by moss, and grabbed my black drawstring bag from our abduction. I stripped of my clothes, put them in the bag and shifted in to my wolf. I picked the bag up in my mouth and headed for the forest.

My wolf was buzzing with excitement. I had no idea what she was thinking about, but she thought that she had to go somewhere. I ignored it and quickened my pace. I was pounding along through the bush, following the scent of polution to downtown, when i felt eyes watching my every move.

I skidded to a halt and whirled around... nothing there. I pricked my ears and listened and i heard the sound of retreating pawsteps. I took off after it, curiousity getting the best of me, but i quickly lost the sound, it had too much of a head start.

I shook the thoughts from my head and focused on getting to town as quickly as possible. I skirted the outside of the highways until i found an area that went into a subway station. I changed in the bushes and followed the steps underground, to the gate where i bought 2 tokens. I picked up a map and found the way i wanted to go, and waited for the subway.

The subway ride was quick and un-nerving, wolves dont like underground. I came out the otherside and was immediately immersed in the concrete hustle and bustle. I followed the map, to the bank that ran country wide. I stepped out of the flow of human bodies and into the cool, air-conditioned room of the bank. I waited in line until it was my turn to talk to a teller.
