After I had reassured all of the younger kids, Master called our attention back to him.

He looked very pissed off, but addressed a soldier to show us our snacks and and our sleeping quarters.

"Lydia, and Nathan. Please remain behind for a moment." Said Master.

We remained where we were and waited until the kids had all eagerly left to eat.

"Nathan, thank you for helping me out back there, but I want you to know that I had the situation under control, but this proves to me, that you will turn out to be a great leader. You are also very strong, which is why I have decided that you will be hooked up to the wagon as well. You don't need to pull it or anything, your simply there to keep an eye on this delinquent" He said without even glancing at me. I just scowled at him.

"Now head off to bed! We all have a big day ahead of us tomorrow! I will have someone show you to your sleeping quarters, no snack for you, Lydia but if you wish Nate, there will be cookies and milk waiting for you beside your bed." And with that, he walked away.

Two soldiers waited by the door, and once we had joined them, they took off walking down an unfamiliar hallway, away from the drugs.

After walking down twisting and turning corridors for a while, we arrived at very heavy looking doors, that were cranked open when the soldiers flashed I.D. cards.

Once the doors were opened, Nate and I walked in and the doors were slammed behind us, leaving the guards outside.

Our sleeping quarters were very nice, there were rows upon rows of military bunk beds.

Most of the children, were all asleep, including Jake who i noticed sleeping on a top bunk with a little boy curled up beside him.

I went over to a bottom bunk, took of my combat boots, and climbed into bed.

Nate walked over and climbed into the bottom bunk right beside mine. Just as promised, there was a plate of cookies and a glass of milk on a stool beside his bed.

My stomach gave a rumble as I had not eaten since lunch.

Nate sat up and handed me 4 of the cookies, and he began eating the rest wordlessly

I finished the cookies in no time, and rolled over onto my back.

"Thank you Nate.... for everything." I whispered into the dark.

He didn't acknowledge me, maybe he was already asleep.

I felt a little tug on the covers and a slight dip in the mattress. I rolled over to wrap my arms around Wynde and give her a kiss on the forehead, telling her to go to sleep.

It's now my duty to protect these kids and give them all hope, even if it kills me.

I closed my eyes and fell into a sleep that was sure to be filled with drug-lords, dozens of children with hope-filled eyes watching me, and a certain bad boy, who I've never talked to before today, who I will need to keep close to me, in order to keep these kids alive through this hell.
