It had been hours.
Hours since I drank, hours since I saw the pack, and hours since I stopped walking.
I was tired, sweaty, and in desperate need of a rest.
The two girls who had curled up in my arms, (Wynde and Rayne) had become very heavy as they slept. I didn’t have the heart to wake them and have the walk on their own.
I looked around me. The older kids were trying to help the younger ones but even they were struggling.
Night had begun to fall, but every time we asked to take a break, Master (as we were told to call him) would call useless and say that we weren’t that far away from our final destination and remind us not to speak again.
I looked beside me to see Jake walking silently beside me. I stared at him for a while, hoping to catch his attention, But he was zoned out. I sighed, shifting my weight and continued on struggling at a slower pace with the girls.
Then the weight was gone out of my left arm. I looked up to see Nate carrying Wynde in one arm and a little boy in his other arm. I smiled back at him gratefully, he crookedly grinned back.
We continued on through the muddy hills.
After everyone was just about to collapse we arrived at the compound.
It was a tall cement building, that was the size of a very small school.
We were lead through the open doors. As we walked down the cement hallway, i saw rows and rows of spies, standing at attention as 'Master' walked past. As we turned down another corridor, an overwhelming stench reached my nose and made me almost gag.
Finally we came to a door, and one of the guards opened it and gestured for us to follow 'Master' in. I slowly bounced Rayne awake as i walked into a room that looked like a classroom.
I sat down at a desk and seated Rayne on my lap.
After everyone had taken a seat, 'Master' began to talk.
"So i understand that you are all wolves... correct?" A little girl at the front started to nod.
"How many of you can shift?" Everyone but 4 of the youngest raised there hands.
Master gestured for them to get up and walk to the right side of the room.
"As for the rest off you, you will be split into 2 groups, humans, and wolves. Every five days you will switch groups. If you are in the human group, you will work with these four, because they can not shift yet. Understood?"
Me being the smartass i am, muttered "Um not really."
Master scowled at me before he sauntered over to my desk and leant down on it.
"Listen here, i have a company to uphold, a business. I am a drug dealer. I have to deliver very large quantities of drugs around this area, and i need it done quickly. I've tried using humans to carry the packages, but they dont last very long, so i figure you wolves will speed things along. You will do as I say, and you wont ask questions." He stood up and started walking back to the front if the room.
"Maybe if you had ever worked a day in your life, you wouldn't be such a prick." I muttered to myself.
But he heard, and he spun around quick as a flash, and I barely had time to move Rayne out of the way before his hand connected with my cheek.
Aloud 'SMACK' echoed around the room, and when my vision became clear again, i noticed that everyone was staring at me shocked.
Master had a smug look on his face as he made his way back to the front of the room, and this time i didn't make any stupid comments.
When he turned to face us again, he was rubbing his hands together looking excited.
"Now lets split you into groups."
