57; Fire escape 12/20

I woke up in the middle of the night, struggling to catch my breath. The room was filled with smoke. I stood up and held my sweater in front of my mouth. I walked to the kitchen where I saw a big fire. There was a fire extinguisher in the hallway of the apartment building. I walked to the door and tried to open it. It was locked, so I started looking for my key. In the meantime the fire was spreading. I couldn't find my keys anywhere. I started to look for another way out. The windows were bolted from the outside. There was no way out and the fire had almost filled my entire apartment. I just banged on the door, screaming until the fire burnt my skin and the smoke filled my lungs.

I was sitting in front of the TV in my hotel room with Dan and Nick. One of my stories came true again. I looked at Nick, who was slowly losing hope. Every time a story would come true there was a bigger chance his would come true too.

Yesterday, Nick and I talked a lot. I told him everything about me and my dreams. We also did some more research. He told me about his life; his family and his friends.

"So... Who do you love?" We looked at Dan; he always managed to break the silence. Whether that's a good thing or a good thing, is yet to decide. "In her dream you loved someone, you died trying to save her. Could it be Carly?"

"I don't know, Dan. It could be." He still loves her? I thought he broke up with her.

"I'm going to get some air." I stood up and walked out of the room. I walked to the exit of the hotel. It was really cold outside and I forgot to grab my coat on the way out. I watched the cars pass carefully, afraid to slip on the road. I heard footsteps nearing me behind me. I turned my head and saw Nick walking to me. I continued looking at the road.

"Hi." He stood next to me, facing the road.

"Hey." We were silent for a moment.

He looked at me, then at the rood, then at me again and chuckled.

"What's funny?"

"Just all of this. I never thought this would be my life, or well, what's left of it anyways."

"Don't say that. We'll figure something out."

"Really? Everyone in that stupid diary dies. I am in that stupid diary. I'll be dead in three months and there's no way we can prevent it, Cameron."

A tear rolled down my cheek. "I know, but we can try." We stayed silent for a few minutes. "I'm sorry." Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him looking at me. "Maybe if you wouldn't have tried to help me, this wouldn't have happened."

"If I didn't try to help you, I wouldn't know I'd die."

"I would've told you."

"Really? You would've come up to me and Carly and told me I'd die?"

"I guess you're right; I wouldn't have the guts to do that, but you'd probably 'find' my diary and read it or something like that."

"Yeah, probably after you bumped into me and lost it. You're lucky Carly didn't find it." We laughed.

"She would've destroyed me."

"You're so lucky your knight in shining armor saved you."

"Did you really just call yourself my knight in shining armor?" I started laughing hysterically.

"Yes I did, milady." He looked at me and started laughing too. We were now, two teenagers standing at the side of the road, laughing hysterically while cars passed by. After a while he stopped laughing and stared at me. His stare made me nervous and my laughing started to die down slowly. I turned to him and we looked in each other's eyes. This is why I like him so much. Suddenly he looked away and got really distant.

"We should probably go inside; you look like you're freezing." He started walking back to the hotel.

"Yeah, we should." I said to myself before walking to the hotel myself.

The next morning I woke up in my hotel room, got ready and headed down to leave for the last drive. I saw Dan waiting in the lobby.

"Is our sleeping beauty still sleeping?" I asked.

He laughed. "No, Nicky's already in the car. We should join him." He took my hand and we walked to the car. Today we'd finally arrive in New York. I got in the back of the car again.

"That took you long enough. We can finally leave." Nick barked at me.

"Got out of the wrong side of bed, this morning?" I said. Why is he being so cold? He just ignored me. Dan got in the car and Nick started the motor.

"Why is everyone so quiet? Did someone die?" Dan asked. He looked at me.

"Yeah, the thing that crawled into Nick's ass died." Dan snickered but no one joined him so he stopped.

"No seriously guys, what's wrong? "

"Nothing." Nick and I replied at the same time. I said it in a confused tone while he said it in an irritated and angry voice. I had no idea what was going on. It happened yesterday when he got all distant. I thought he was just tired or something but it got to his mood apparently. And let me tell you; one thing even more annoying and irritating than 'jerk Nick' is definitely grumpy Nick.

After driving a few hours, we finally arrived. The 'facility' was a large apartment complex. We walked in and got to a some sort of lobby. A man in his twenty's came to us.

"Can I help you with something?" The man asked.

"We're staying at room 128." Nicholas said.

The man's face lit up. "Oh, welcome. Stella will show you to your rooms."

A girl suddenly appeared and we stared at her. She came out of nowhere.

"Hi, I'm Stella." She reached out her hand to shake ours.

Stella had fuzzy, brown hair and brown eyes. She was slim and simply beautiful. She shook everyone's hand, took our bags and escorted us to the elevator. She pressed the button of the 21st floor. The elevator was pretty slow and I was getting anxious. Dan was staring at Stella the entire time while Nick was looking at me in the mirror and I was looking at the floor. He was looking at me questioningly, like he was trying to figure something out.

The elevator couldn't stop fast enough. The way up seemed to take forever, but when it finally did stop, we got escorted by Stella to our rooms. Dan and Nick were sharing one with another guy while I was sharing mine with Stella herself. We got to the room. It was a big room with a balcony, two beds and two small closets.

"This is where you'll be staying. Come down in an hour for lunch." She said to me before mysteriously disappearing.

I threw my bag on my bed with a sigh and started unpacking. I didn't have a lot of stuff just the necessary things. Someone barged into my room.

"Stellaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I'm going to kill you!" The guy yelled; not realizing she wasn't here. He looked a lot like her. Short, brown hair, brown eyes. I was just staring at the strange guy. He then noticed me and froze. "Oh, I think I got the wrong room." He got embarrassed and blushed just slightly. He also looked a bit confused.

"She just left. I'm her new roommate; Cameron but you can call me Cam." I walked over to him and shook his hand.

"You're really pretty." He said all of a sudden.

I put a strand of hair behind my ear and blushed. "Thank you..."

"Oh, I'm Cody, I'm Stella's brother. Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too, Cody." I took a few steps back.

"I'll go look for my sister now. I'll see you at lunch?" He smiled.

"Sure. I'll see you then." I turned around and continued unpacking. He was really cute.

He was still standing in the room and chuckled. "You're pretty cute too, Cam."

I turned around shocked. Did I say that out loud? He smiled at me one last time before running out of the room.
