212; Home alone 01/13

My parents had gone on a business trip to the UK and left me and my brother alone for a week. We were just watching some TV when he got a call from his friends asking him to come over. When I was asleep he snuck out of the door. In the middle of the night, I got woken up by a strange sound. I thought it was just my stupid brother, so I went back to sleep. The strange sound woke me up again, a few hours later. The sound came from the kitchen downstairs. I put my slippers on and went down the stairs. I went to the kitchen where I saw a shadow. I walked closer until I heard a knock from behind me. It was my brother banging on the window to let me in. He must've locked himself out. I went to the front door and opened it. In front of me was standing a man with a knife in his hand. He grabbed me by my neck, pulled me to him and stabbed me.

I was sitting in bed when someone knocked on my door. "Come in."

Dan opened the door and walked in. "Hey Cam. I was looking for Stella but she's not here."

"No she isn't." I chuckled. "You like her?"

For the first time in my life I saw Dan blush. "I kind of do." He walked to my bed and sat on the edge. "She's nice and her smile is really pretty and she is just so beautiful."

"Looks who's in love." I nudged him in his shoulder. "And I thought I had it bad. At least I'm not talking about his beautiful smile." We chuckled.

"No but you talk about his beautiful biceps or his beautiful blue eyes." He laughed.

Two knock on my door got our attention. "Come in." I yelled again; still laughing a bit.

It was the man from yesterday, who welcomed us, who walked in. "Hello, Cameron."

"Oh, hi. I'm sorry. What can I do for you."

"I'm doctor Steele but you can just call me Brandon." He started walking toward me but I stood up and met him halfway. He reached out his hand and I shook it. "I'm the owner of the facility. Nicholas told me all about your situation and everything you talk about to me is confidential." I just nodded. "Tomorrow I'd like to take you to the research lab to get to the bottom of your gift." I nodded again. "I'll send someone to escort you." He turned around and walked out of the room again.

"He's kind of weird, don't you think?"

I shushed him. "Maybe he has can still hear us."

"What do you mean Cam? He's probably back wherever he came from."

"We're literally in a facility for gifted people and you'd think the founder of it would be 'normal'? Maybe he has super hearing?" Dan laughed at me.

"Yeah, and maybe he's invisible and still standing in this room."

I hit him in the chest playfully.

"Let's go get some breakfast." He said after his fit of laughter. We walked to the cafeteria together. We sat down at one of the tables with our breakfast;

"How is everything going with lover boy?" He said while moving his eyebrows suggestively.

"You guys talking about me?" Cody walked up to us. He sat down next to me and casually put his arm around my shoulder. "Hey, Cam."

"Hey, Cody." His flirtatious attitude always made me laugh. He was so carefree and easy to hang out with.

"Why is it that every time I'm alone with my best friend, someone has to ruin it? I want the details, Cameron!" Dan whined.

"We'll talk about it later, okay?"

"Fine, I'll just eat this is my room." He took his breakfast and walked away.

Cody moved to the seat opposite of me. "So what are your plans today?"

"I don't know, maybe hang out in my room a bit or explore the building. What about you?"

"I was about to go for a little walk, you want to join?"

"Yeah, sure." I finished my breakfast and we walked out of the cafeteria.

"I have to show you something." He grabbed my hand and we ran to the elevator. When we got in, he pressed the button of the top floor.

"Where are you taking me?"

"Just trust me. It's really beautiful up there." He smiled at me. The really slow elevator had finally reached its destination. We got out and I was shocked by the view. It was a rooftop garden. Beautiful flowers and plants everywhere. In the back there was a bench facing the city. He was still holding my hand and dragged me to the bench. "Isn't it beautiful?" I looked at the city.

"Yeah, it is." I started smiling. I grew up living in New York with my parents. This was bringing up a lot of good memories but yet my thoughts slipped to their deaths.

"I'm sorry about your parents." He suddenly said. Damn, I always forget he reads minds.

"I thought you said you could control the mind reading."

"I did, I can. It's just that you're really silent and I want to know what's going on in that beautiful head of yours." He looked at me. I tried not to think about anything at the moment. I like him; he's funny, he makes me laugh, but that might be because of the advantage he has because he can read my mind. He smiled at me and I smiled back.

The elevator doors opened and Dan and Nick appeared. We looked at them but they hadn't spotted us yet.

"You should be careful Nick. She'll be the death of you, quite literally."

"I know, Dan. I can't help it. Every time I'm with her, I want to touch her, comfort her, just be with her but then I think about that vision and I know I just can't do it.

All I could think about was that we had to get out of here. I can't hear this.

Cody pulled me of the bench and dragged me to the elevator. We got in before they could see us. The elevator doors closed and I sighed in relief.

"You like him." I looked at Cody. He had released my hand and was leaning against the elevator wall, looking at me. "You didn't want to hear all of that because you didn't want to hear him talk about some girl."

"That's true, but it's fine now. I mean, he's falling for someone and it's not like he ever wanted me." I looked at the floor.

"How do you know that? People have secrets."

"Yeah but none of them include being secretly in love with me." I laughed.

Cody surprised me by stepping forward and kissing me. It took me a while before realizing it and I kissed him back. He pushed me against the wall. Suddenly the elevator's bell rang; signaling the doors were about to open. He pulled back and looked at me before taking a step back. The doors opened and Stella walked in.

"Are you really that lazy, sis? You could literally be wherever you want in just a few seconds and you take the slowest elevator known to mankind."

"Maybe I just like ruining hot moments."
