your older brother, steve, hooking you up with dustin at the snow ball
"I can't believe this worked." You gulped as you say in the passenger seat of the rusty old red car. Your older brother sat beside you in the driver's side, one hand on the steering wheel, the other on your knee. "Steve, I don't think I can do this."
"Hey, hey, hey." He looked at you and you bit your cheek. "C'mon, kiddo. No backing out now. This is it. We're down 51 to 52 and if you take this shot, you could tie it and potentially win us the game-"
"Steve, I don't play basketball."
"Right, um..."
"Steve," you waved your hand in front of his face and the older boy looked up at you. "Give me some quick words of encouragement before I kick you out of the driver's seat and drive myself home. Please."
"Okay, um, pep talk in 3, 2, 1." He nodded at you as you chewed on your fingernail. "You cannot go wrong with Dustin. He is the most desperate thirteen year old I have ever met. Is that good enough?"
"Not at all!" You whined, falling back in your seat. A car honked from behind you, since you were parked in the middle of the lane at the school parking lot, making it very hard for people to get out. "Just take me home, Steve. Please. For my own good."
Steve reached over you and opened the door. "Get out there and do your thing. You can literally not go wrong with this kid, (Y/N), okay? You got this, kiddo."
Sighing, you nodded and placed your converse on the ground below you. Taking a deep breath in, you stood up and smoothed out the grey dress that you had on. Shutting the door, you poked your head in through the open window at looked at your brother. "Wish me luck, Steve-o."
"You don't need it, kid." He nodded, saluting you. With that, he drove off and you turned to the school. Before you could back down, you forced yourself up the stairs and into the foyer, where the AV Club and science teacher was sitting at a table, a wide grin spread on his lips. You gulped.
Before you knew it, you were in the gymnasium with your closest friend, dancing to Cyndi Lauper's 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun.' The song quickly came to a close, a little too quickly, and then a slow song came on.
"Second song of the night and it's already a slow song," she sighed, sitting down at a table. You laughed as you stood in front of your date-less best friend. Suddenly, you felt a tap on your shoulder and you spun around. Your heart jumped into your stomach, or you had a heart attack. Either one worked.
"(Y/N), may I have this dance?"
"I-I, uh," you stammered. The girl behind you pushed you into the curly haired boy and your cheeks flushed a dark red. "Sorry. Sure. Yeah. Okay."
"Rad."
Awkwardly, Dustin led you out to the dance floor where he placed his hands on your hips. You put your hands on his shoulders, following Steve's instructions from an hour before. He had taught you how to slow dance, but this was much different. Dustin was your height; Steve was about a foot taller than you. You definitely were not as nervous dancing with Steve than you were with Dustin, either.
"I'm bad at this. Sorry." He admitted and you grinned, feeling your cheeks get hot. Thank gosh for bad lighting.
"Me too. It's okay." You said, feeling yourself calming down a little bit. A little, your heart was still in your digestive system. "Um, sorry. I think that was your foot."
"It's okay." He laughed, showing off his lack of teeth. You smiled to yourself. "Stop staring at my mouth. If it wasn't for my lack of two front teeth, I'd think you'd want to kiss me or something."
Your heart sped up like crazy as butterflies ran marathons around your stomach. "Sorry. You just look funny."
"At least I don't have glasses that hide half of my face."
"Hey! I know my face is small, I can't help it that my glasses are way too big for my face." You groaned and a giggle escaped your lips. He smiled at you.
"Jeez, is one of your parents good-looking and the other one not? Because I can tell that Steve is definitely the better looking sibling." He teases and you looked down, sucking in a laugh. He was grinning, snorting a little, when you looked back up at him.
"Shut up. At least I have teeth."
"That's rude."
"You called me ugly." You simply shrugged.
"Hey, I would never call you ugly. All I said was that Steve is better looking." He studied your face as you deadpanned. "I'm kidding. I think that you're way prettier." Since Dustin was staring at the features on your face intensely, he noticed your cheeks turn bright pink. "Wow. I just made (Y/N) blush."
"Shut up." You shoved him a little. He tightened his grip on your waist, smiling hugely at you. The song ended and another slow song started, but you pulled away from him. You saw his mouth turn downwards into a slight frown, but it was quickly replaced by his usual goofy grin.
"Can't handle me, huh, (Y/N)?" He teases and you rolled your eyes.
"You're so right! Oh my. How could I ever resist the Dustin Henderson?" You laughed as you walked away. He tugged on your hand and you turned around. "Chill out, dude. I'm just getting some water. Dancing is tiring, you know?"
"I'll come then."
"Can't get enough of me, Henderson?"
"You know it, (Y/L/N)."
