after you score good on your test, mike takes you out for ice cream

"Thank you, Mrs. Wheeler," you thank Mike's mother as you climb out of the car. She kissed Mike on the cheek and you headed into the ice cream shop, Mike following close behind.

"A vanilla sundae for the lady, and a dipped cone for me, please," Mike ordered at the counter, grabbing a dollar bill from his pocket. You thanked him once you had your ice creams, slipping into the closest booth. Mike slid in across from you, smiling as he brought the dipped cone to his lips.

"Thank you, Mike. Really. I appreciate you helping me study."

"It's no problem, Y/N," he paused, but then continued once he realized that you were shaking your head, "really. I'm just glad that you scored a B. That's really good. Congratulations."

"Thank you," you smiled, eating your ice cream. For about an hour or more, you and Mike sat in the booth in the ice cream shop, talking and laughing about everything and nothing. He explained to you the rules of his party that he and his friends were in, and you asked about the new girl, Max. He said that he didn't like her at the start, but now they were very close.

"My mom is probably wondering where I am," you said, standing up. Mike nodded, "it's getting pretty dark, anyway."

"Yeah. My mom should be here soon."

On cue, Mrs. Wheeler's old station wagon pulled into the parking lot of the store. Mike smiled as you walked out, throwing your cup out into the garbage.

You and Mike climbed into his mother's car and the three of you were off, in the direction of your house. About ten minutes later, Mrs. Wheeler pulled into your driveway and Mike got out, opening your door. The two of you walked up to your front door and just as you pulled the key out of your pocket, Mike stopped you by grabbing your hand.

"Y/N?"

"Yeah, Mike?" You answered as Mike looked back, to make sure that he wasn't in his mother's line of sight. After he turned back, he pressed his lips to yours. It was unexpected, awkward, and a bit rushed, but nonetheless, you kissed him back.

"Sorry," he apologized.

You felt your cheeks flush, "Good night, Mike."
