"He doesn't look too good," Jackie hummed, plucking a strawberry off the fruit basket you had asked her to bring.
"I know," you started, "but I don't think I can bring myself to take him to the doctors. He looked so frantic and panicked when I mentioned them."
"Hmmm," she replied, biting her lip. She had pulled up a stool next to your seat, watching Taehyung as he slept.
He had no idea that you called her over, or the fact that you were waiting for Jin to make his appearance. Tae had been dozing off when you made the call. If there was anyone who would know what was wrong with Taehyung, it would be him.
It just seemed like a regular fever, and you're sure that that's all it really is: a fever. But with how paranoid Taehyung has been acting, maybe there's something that you're missing. You're not exactly a doctor, and you have no records of his medical history.
"He normally gets off at around 4," Jackie said, interrupting your thoughts. "Right now, he's at his full-time job."
"Okay," you looked down at your phone; it was only 12:18 P.M. It had taken Jackie a while to get out of her part-time job for the day and to retrieve the fruit basket you requested.
What were you going to do for the next three and a half hours?
You turned off your phone and sat back into your chair, sinking into its cushion. It seemed as if it was only yesterday when things were okay. Or, at least, when they seemed to be okay.
The fever wasn't your only concern. Lately, you've noticed the circles under Taehyung's eyes become darker and darker, and it was as if he was becoming someone you didn't know. Of course, he still had his playful sense of humor and his demeanor didn't go through any significant changes, but his eyes. His eyes were so tired, and he started to doze off in lessons more often. He was doing something, unbeknownst to you, that was taking up his energy and time. You should have told him that he needs to take care of himself. You should have—
"Hey."
You stopped staring at Taehyung to meet Jackie's eyes. They were overflowing with concern.
"He'll be okay," she murmured, placing a delicate hand on your shoulder. "You're acting as if you've never seen someone get sick before."
"I know, it's just," you looked back at Tae, "he doesn't know what he's doing. Heck, he doesn't even know what he's saying half the time. And he's refusing to go to the doctors here. But why? It's obvious that he needs some medical care, even if it's for a slight diagnosis, so why? What makes him not want to go to the doctors?"
"Maybe he just doesn't like 'em," she smirked, giving your shoulder a squeeze. "You, out of all people, know how odd he can be. I've only met him once, but boy, I think that was enough for me."
You smiled slightly, rolling your eyes. "I think you say that about pretty much everyone."
"Hey!" Jackie laughed, shoving you. "I haven't said that about you.. yet."
You shook your head, ready to retaliate, when Taehyung stirred awake. His eyes slowly opened, and he tried to stifle back a yawn, failing tremendously. He blinked back tired tears and skimmed the room before he laid his eyes on you. And when he saw you, he smile like a little boy waking up on Christmas morning.
