The following week was the longest week of your life.
You passed through the motions, not really thinking of what you were doing or what you were feeling. You were there, but you weren't.
After they disappeared, you blinked a couple of times before sitting down on your couch for hours, not really aware of the true situation. You stared off into the wall, blocking out all external noises. You didn't even catch what Jackie and Jin were talking about once he was able to come over. And any time they tried to talk to you, you just shut down further.
"Tss!" You brought your hand to your chest, showing the first sign of any emotion by glaring at the hot pot.
"That's what you get for not paying attention," Jackie murmured, pulling out an ice pack for you.
You nodded your head as thanks and took the cold item. She and Jin didn't trust you on your own; Jackie's been here for the past week to keep an eye out on you.
"You know," she started, fiddling with a blonde lock, "if you would just listen to me, maybe you'd know what's going on and if you could do anything to fix it."
You grunted as a response, turning the stove off and letting the soup cool.
"It's not like anyone died, for god's sake! So get out of your little world, pay attention to what I have to say, and maybe you can do something about it instead of mope!"
Your gaze turned to her, and she looked the most irritated you've ever seen her. Jackie's face was crimson, her features contorting into those of fury and disgust. Her crisp, cerulean eyes were blazing with a strong emotion of determination. This is the most emotion you've seen her express all week. For the most part, she had just been babysitting you and making sure you ate. But now, she was really trying to push you out of your zone.
You stared down at the soup, watching it gurgle and sizzle before responding. "I know you're right, but I'm just having a hard time right now."
Jackie's expression softened into one of understanding, nodding as a way of letting you know that you could continue.
"I know this is all unhealthy too," you chuckle softly, "and when I think about it, it really doesn't make sense. I mean, we only knew each other for a couple of months at most, and yet, now that he's gone, I feel that there's this void in my heart. I can't look forward to his spontaneous texts or calls to learn English anymore because he's not here."
You walk into the living room and sit yourself down at the couch, gesturing for her to do the same.
"And then there comes into play that he lied. He lied from the very beginning and our friendship was based on lies. I'm just, still wrapping my head around it, I suppose," you mutter, not meeting her eyes. "But tell me again. Tell me again what you guys were trying to say the other night."
Jacky sighed, pursing her lips into a thin line. "Well, you know that my brother's dad and my mom married each other when we were teenagers? There's something you should know about his family."
When Jackie didn't continue, you decided to press forward. "Which is..?"
"They're a family of spies," Jackie said, taking a deep breath before continuing to talk. "And Jin met Taehyung at the agency. The men were telling the truth; Taehyung got into some trouble with the higher ups and has been on the run since."
