A/N: This is my first story on Wattpad so comments are appreciatedAmos approached Jaxson in the crowded school hall. "Hey dude," said Amos, speaking
loudly to be heard over the din, "Tonight's Halloween. I'm going as a clown. What are you going as?" Jaxson shivered. "I don't think I'll be dressing up as anything. I don't like Halloween very much. Anyways, we're too old for trick or treating and costumes." "It's not like that, stupid!" Amos laughed, "I'm not doing that baby stuff. I'm going to scare the shit out of kids." Amos laughed heartily and Jaxson coughed up some half-hearted chuckles. "Do you want to join me, Jaxi," Amos said. Amos had been Jaxson's friend since 3rd grade and every year since Amos had invited Jaxson to go trick or treating' and every year Jaxson refused. Amos always dressed up as a clown. "I'm not sure. My parents don't like it when I'm out late. Even on the weekends. They'd throw a fit. Sorry dude."
Amos stared at Jaxson with astonishment mixed with annoyance. His face was serious but somehow absurd when he said, "Sorry. Sorry. Nope. I don't accept your apology. Grow up man. Have some fun. You can't spend the rest of your life with your precious parents to protect you, you half grown slug. Every frickin' year you stay in your house. Every damn year! Iḿ sick of it! If you don't come then you're the biggest sissy that ever lived and everyone will know. Come on dude. I'm not giving you a choice. If you don't show on my doorstep at 7 pm tonight, then you're dead. Live a little. Scare kids. I fucking dare you!"
Amos walked away leaving Jaxson standing in the middle of the hallway with his dark brown eyes big, mouth open and a pounding headache and heart. Jaxson spent the rest of the day in a haze, barely listening to the teachers and his friends. He avoided Amos all day long and when the bell finally rang for dismissal, Jaxson raced out of the building as fast as he could.
A few minutes after he got home, Jaxson's phone played a cheery ringtone, breaking his thoughts. The text said, "Are you coming or not? Make up your goddamned mind. - Amos." Jaxon quickly texted back after breathing a heavy sigh. "All right. Fine. I'm coming."
"Good." Amos texted back. "Took you long enough."
Jaxon quickly ran downstairs and was halfway down the street on the way to the metro when his mother called him back to the door. "Jaxson, where are you going?"
"Oh. I'm going costume shopping for Halloween."
"What? Who are you going with? You never go trick or treating. I thought you said that it was too childish for you!"
"I changed my mind, Mom. I'm going with Amos."
"When will you be back?"
"Can I spend the night at his house? I won't get into any trouble. I promise."
"Sure. Call me half an hour before you want to be picked up. Have fun and get some sleep."
Jaxson rushed out the door and walked the two blocks to the metro. He climbed down the unmoving and perpetually broken escalator. He had only waited about two minutes before the metro came. Jaxson crammed himself between the stressed parents and giggling little kids who were excited to get a head start on trick or treating. He grabbed one of the greasy bars and shifted his weight to keep from falling when the train departed.
