Esper woke to her alarm clock buzzing in her ears. She picked her head off her knees and looked around her room. Her eyes were crusty with dry tears. A bright light shown in through the double windo. She could tell she had over slept. She groned snd let her head fall back on her knees. Jay slept curled up on her feet, keeping them warm as a cool breeze swirled around her. She was debating wether she should go to school, or stay home. She decided to except the punishment Monday, and drown in the makeup work she was gonna have to do.

The alarm clock was starting to get really annoying. Esper picked up the closest thing to her, which ended up being a pen, and threw it as hard as she could at the clock. The pen hit the clocks side and sent it sliding off her nightstand. The alarm clock hit the floor with a thud but kept ringing.

Esper sighed as she stood and walked over to the clock. She picked it up and switched off the ringer. Finally, quiet. She studied the clock in her hand. The time was 10:14. she slept though the clock ringing for more than 4 hours. There was a large crack splitting the screen in half. It must have happened when it fell. She placed the clock back on the night stand. She was about to walk out of the room when something caught her eye.

She walked over to the shiny thing that was reflecting sun light. Esper bent down and picked up the beautiful ring her mother had given her. Seeing the memory's it brought back, between her and her mother and everything that happened last night, she wanted to brake it. Smash it into pieces. But she couldn't. The ring was so enchanting, so beautiful. That ring was the last thing her mother had given to her. She couldn't get rid of it. With out farther debate she slipped the ring back on her finger.

She started her walk towards the kitchen, jay followed. "Well looks like it's just you and me today bud. Bacon or cereal?" She wasn't even gonna try to feed him dog food. He looked up at her and barked. "Sorry, your getting cereal. Bacons to much work." He's gave her a look. What if he really can under Stan her. She shook jar head smiling at him. "Ya I know, lazy." She grabbed the box of lucky charms and pored some in his bole then hers. Then she added some milk to hers and started to put it away. Jay sat at his bole and scratched at the ground next to it. "What you want milk too?"
"Woof!"
"Sorry, dairy's no good for dogs."
He wined again as she put away the milk.

"Ok, so what you wanna do to day?" She turned to him and his snout was berried in the bole of lucky charms. She stood there watching him. She couldn't even begin to imagine her life with out him. Her whole life might be different if she didn't go to the shelter that exact day, at that exact time. It's amazing that one second different in the past could completely alter the future. like maybe if she had stopped her mom from leaving that day....

Changing the subject the thought about the saying , you don't chose the dog the dog chooses you. Or something like that. We'll in her case it stemmed was true. Esper hadn't even gotten near the dog kennels before jay came running out and attacked her. She had her heart sep on a small puppy. She was hedging to the puppy pin when jay literally took her to the ground. Some other family was about to adopt him when the worker opened the cage door, jay slipped out and ran into her. No one could tell her that wasn't meant to be. The original adopters parents already didn't like jay although the kids were disappointed. But then a puppy came by and they got over it. That's how she ended up with this bugger. She smiled again at the memory.

Esper took her bole and sat in the couch. Jay came over and joined her when he was done. She turned on the tv and changed it to Sweet Life of Zach and Cody. She may be 16, but this was still one of her favorite shows. Jay rested his chin on her leg wail she eat. "When I'm done, you wanna go out side?" She said shoving another spoon full in her mouth. He perked up and looked at her, giving her his answer. "Alrighty then." She replayed with a mouth full of lucky charms.
