In a whole ten months Leslie and Scott had been together, they've only fought six times. Four of them only happened lately this month and Dale had the displeasure of witnessing them.
This time, they had been arguing about a party and how Leslie had been acting lately. Dale couldn't exactly tell if he was part of the argument. He heard his name a couple times before putting on his earphones to shut off whatever was happening in the other room.
He spaced out for a long time, enough to perfectly construct a different scenario for tonight, that he didn't hear Scott knocking on his bedroom door.
"Dale, are you coming?" he called out. Dale couldn't help to notice the tired expression on his face, how he sounded defeated. He followed Scott down the hallway, where his sister was waiting for them.
"Where are you three hoodlums going?" A voice startled them and they all turned to see Mrs Underwood who was still wearing her work outfit; her pink scrubs with little hearts.
"To the bible study!" Dale answered with a wink and awkward thumbs-up when no one did, just to lighten up the situation.
Leslie only sighed and dragged her little brother by his ear and muttered, "No one will believe that, you idiot." Scott gave Mrs Underwood a sympathetic look, like I can't believe you put up with these two for sixteen years look, as he walked past her and followed his girlfriend and his best friend. Mrs Underwood just sighed and nodded.
"Leslie, Dale - don't forget your curfew, okay? You have school tomorrow. You better be here by 11. And by 11, I don't mean 11:59, Dale," she warned, and then turned to Scott. "You've got my whole world, both of my worlds, in your car. Drive safely and sober, okay?" she said to her daughter's boyfriend, who nodded but it were her children she should have warned.
