Elliot's POV
I drove away from Olivia's house and her question stayed with me. Did she want to get back together? Is that why she was asking me if I had dated anyone? Or was that her way of asking my permission to move on and start dating again?
I really wish I knew, because then it wouldn't be driving me crazy! I didn't want to a divorce, but she did, and I've never really stopped wanting her.
I stopped in traffic, and I grabbed my phone as I waited for it to move again. I unlocked it and went straight to pictures. I found several of the kids being silly as usual, but then the ones of Olivia and myself really hit hard. I wanted to call her up and ask her to take me back, and that was my feeling after every date that I had.
The women were nice enough, and they were pretty, but none of them were Olivia. They lacked her sense of humor, her caring traits, and how smart she was. We were perfect for each other, but I had been clearly lacking in the husband department.
---
The next night I went on a date with some girl that my business partner, Leo, hooked me up with. He was a retired police officer that I started a security business with, and we are doing really good.
I stood up when a woman with raven colored hair walked into the fancy Italian restaurant.
"Diane?" I questioned, and she smiled.
"You must be Elliot!" She exclaimed, as she reached her hand out to me. I shook it, and was surprised about how firm her handshake was.
"So, how does Leo know you?" I asked, as I pulled her chair out, and helped her push it back in once she was sitting.
"Uh, he is my brother in law technically." She replied, as I sat down. I unbuttoned the lower part of my suit jacket.
"Uh..." I trailed off, and she smiled slightly.
"His brother, my ex husband, is in jail. He is helping me move on, because his family took my side in the divorce." She replied, and I nodded.
"Well, my mother took my ex wife's side in the divorce too." I chuckled, and she laughed.
"I'm Charles, and I'll be taking care of you tonight. What can I get you two to drink?"
---
The date didn't go well. Diane was still tied up her ex husband, just like I was Liv. She only talked about him and their six kids. We both had too much baggage to have a successful date or a theoretical relationship.
I didn't want another date, and I am sure she didn't either. I drove past my house and to the old cop bar the crew used to go to. I climbed out of my car and jogged across the road, and once I was safely to the other side, I slipped my suit jacket off, and opened the door for a few drunk cops to walk out, before heading in.
I walked up to the bar and ordered a beer, and then I turned and looked around, hoping to spot a table where I could see and get drunk, but instead I saw a guy.
He was sitting at a booth with Liv, and was flirting with her. I might not be able to hear what he is saying, but he is putting the moves on my girl, and it hurt. She wasn't trying to get him to go away, nor was she not liking it. I could tell by the small smile easing it's way onto her lips, that she was enjoying it, and I wasn't.
I quickly walked from the bar, as tears stung my eyes. I didn't want her to see me and think that I'm stalking her. I ran across the street again, narrowly missing a cab, and I climbed into my car and leaned my head against the steering wheel and swallowed hard.
She isn't mine anymore.
---
As the week wore on and I grew more upset about the whole Liv dating thing, and when I went over to pick up the kids Friday night for my weekend with them, Liv was in a dress that hugged her body just right, and she looked completely stunning.
"Dad, can you help me with my bag?" Gus asked, as he stood in front of me, but my eyes were still glued to Liv.
She heard Gus' question, and she turned to see me staring, and I watched her cheeks grow red with embarrassment.
"Dad!" Gus yelled, and I quickly turned my eyes to my son.
"Yeah?"
"Can you carry my bag? My backpack is heavy enough as it is." He sighed, and I nodded, as I walked over to my almost ten year old, and took his duffel bag from him, and then grabbed the four others ones that sat near the couch.
I turned and headed towards the door, but the image of Liv was burned into my brain, but I wasn't complaining about seeing her picture whenever I thought, but I was more complaining about the fact she was probably going on a date.
As I walked back towards the house after dropping the bags into the bar of my car, the kids were running down the stairs.
"Jayden, would you mind getting Cayden in his booster seat?" I asked, and she nodded, as she picked up the three year old, so they could safely cross the road, and I headed back up the steps and opened the door slowly. Liv was sitting on the edge of the couch and was putting on her favorite pair of black heels, that matched her favorite black dress. She would this outfit on date night with me, but now it was for another guy.
"Uh, you look nice." I breathed, awkwardly.
"El! I thought you already left!" She exclaimed, because she must've not heard me come in.
"No! Sorry! I didn't mean to scare you. I just wanted to say bye." I sighed, and she stood and nodded.
"Uh, no, it's fine. Don't apologize. And thanks for the compliment." She spoke, and I nodded. She walked towards me, but I moved to the side because I knew she wanted to grab her jacket.
"No problem. I should get going. Have fun tonight." I breathed, and she nodded.
She smiled at me, but it was awkward.
As I looked into her deep brown eyes I knew I couldn't resist. I took the step forward and I placed a hand to her waist and I kissed her passionately.
