Lorena Eliakim
"I am sorry. I should not have been eavesdropping on your conversation. Curiosity just got the best of me," I said sadly to my father.
"It is okay, my daughter. However, the next time you do something like that, there will be consequences. Do you understand what I am saying?" He asked and I nodded my head before leaving his sight for good that day.
It had been hours since the incident with Sahem and my forced engagement. My father was afraid to tell my mother what had occurred so we decided to keep it a secret until my mother started asking questions. Walking down the palace halls, I decided to retire so that I may be able to get up tomorrow to go to the synagogue. Tomorrow was The Sabbath and on this day, everyone was meant to rest from strenuous work and give thanks to Jehovah.
My parents would be angry if I was not prepared for The Sabbath so I went to my chambers early to sleep so that I may be well rested in the morning.
The next morning came quickly and my personal maid, Ina, came in a rush to wake me up.
"My Lady! Hurry, you must wake up! You have overslept and the queen will be very angry at you!" She exclaimed and my heart started to beat faster by the minute.
I rushed out of bed and my maids quickly helped me get dressed before my mother came in. A veil was set on my head and I wrapped it around myself, covering my mouth. My mother was very serious about The Sabbath and if I were to be late for anything on this day, she became overly emotional.
When I was in the middle of putting on my sandals, my mother came into the room, dismissing all the maids.
When Ina lingered in the room, my mother put on her stance of authority and said, "Be gone, Ina."
"Yes, your highness," my maid replied and she scurried out of the room, shutting the door quickly. My mother rarely got angry but when she did, everyone in the entire kingdom- even my father, knew not to mess with her.
"You are late," she started off, looking at me with harsh dark brown eyes.
"Yes Mother, it was an accident. I spent too much time-"
"Lorena," she cut me off, "You are a woman now. I love you so much, more than you could ever know. On the contrary, the excuses have to stop now. You are going to be taking over as queen in about twenty years. These shenanigans have to stop, my dear. Understand? The Sabbath is important and if you are late again, I will have to tell your father."
"I was not late intentionally," I said, in a small voice after feeling disappointed.
"That does not matter now. We must walk to the synagogue. The Rabbi is waiting for us," she replied and I nodded.
We took a carriage to the synagogue and before you knew it, the ceremony was over and people left the synagogue to go elsewhere. Lots of people went home to eat with their families or rest. Today was the Sabbath so lots of people were not attending work in the villages and it was mostly quiet in Judea.
I decided to take a quiet stroll around the lake by myself and just think about everything that has happened for the last few days. Life had been taking a toll on me and I was used to the constant prying from my parents but not from a certain man who waltzed his way into my life. Sahem.
