Alternate First Chapter

10 1 1

I am now realizing that this story had really no plot at all and have attempted to 'restart' the story. This is the alternate beginning to Past The Stereotypes.

(this chapter will not follow the events of the original first chapter)

"Class dismissed," Professor McGonagall called. Most of the class bolted out the door at the sound of her words.

McGonagall's sharp voice pierced through Cory's head, waking him up from his stupor. He nearly made it out the door before Professor McGonagall spoke again.

"Cory Summers, please stay after class."

He sighed and walked to her McGonagall's desk, past the last few stragglers attempting to cram a few more books into their already full bags before McGonagall decided that they needed more homework.

"Mr. Summers, I have noticed that you are having some trouble with your Transfiguration work," She said sternly.

"No, I'm doing fine." Cory protested, mentally cursing his voice for cracking.

"Mr. Summers, Your last assignment was to turn a teapot into a tortoise, and you ended up making the teapot explode."

Cory looked down at his feet and rubbed the back of his neck nervously. Annabella was still furious at him, she had glass cuts all over herself now, even though it was her fault for being too stubborn to go to Madam Pomfrey.

"I believe it would be best if I appointed you a tutor." She continued.

He looked up in disbelief. "What!? You want me to have a tutor?"

"Yes, that is what I said. I think a tutor can help you control your transfiguration. Now, I have to go to a staff meeting. I will contact your tutor and get back to you tomorrow" With that she disappeared. Literally, she was nowhere!

"How does she do that..." Cory muttered under his breath as he made his way towards the door.

'A tutor!' A tutor! She wants me to have a bloody tutor!' he thought to himself 'great... just great...'

Someone ran by, but you could only see a blur of blue. that was until the blur met the wall though. The blur must be a Ravenclaw, and by the size of him, he must be a first or second year.

Then Andrew Newfeild came jogging through the corridor. Of course, Newfeild couldn't take a bloody day off from torturing people.

"Oi! Lay of the firstie Newfield." Cory called.

"Whats it to you Summers?"

"Now, now Newfield," I said taking a step closer. Newfeild was clearly taller by at least a half a foot "I wouldn't get too confident if I were you."

"I could take you down in a second, Summers" Newfeild challenged grabbing his wand from his pocket and pointing it at an amused Cory.

"Oh, I'm sure you could..." Cory said matter a factly. "Under the right circumstances of course. Just, before we get to the 'bringing me down part, I would like to have a little talk. Man to man." He studied Newfeilds dirty blonde hair that went a little bit past his shoulders. "Or at least I think its man to man."

"Okay Summers, that's it!" Newfeild shouted, clearly mad that someone had insulted his precious hair.

"No, but really Newfeild. You wouldn't want your girlfriend to find out that your cheating on her, would you? I asked innocently "I mean, I am a good secret keeper and all but, you know sometimes they just like to 'slip' out of my mouth at dinner. And you know how fast news travels."

"You wouldn't." Newfeild dared.

"But I would, now why don't you get back to your Gryffindor friends before they start to worry," Cory said.

After a second of standing there, Newfeild stormed off, but not before glaring back at Cory. Oh, if looks could kill...

"You okay Mate?" Cory asked holding his hand out to help the first year up.

He stood up on his own glaring at Cory.

"I'm not a first year" He growled, fixing his robes, and blowing his chestnut hair out of his eyes.

"Okay, sorry about that. It's kinda hard to guess your year when you just look like a blue blur."

"I guess.... I'm Oliver Schnabel" He said holding out a hand.

Cory glanced at it warily... the words of his father echoing in his head, 'And don't you dare insult the family name by prancing around with a blood traitor, or worse, a mud-blood.' The Schnabels were known blood traitors. They worked with the order. Well, they used to anyways...

Well jokes on them, I'm not going to 'prance around' with him, I'm just going to talk.

"Cory Summers," He said, shaking hands with the Ravenclaw.

"Well Oliver, now that we're such good friends," Cory said lightly. "Why were you running from Newfeild?"

"He just fell victim to one of my pranks. Let's just say the less you know the better." He confessed.

"Wicked. See you around blur!" Cory smirked, making his way out of the hallway before the dinner crowd ran them over on their way to their dorms.

"See you around," Oliver said, grimacing at his new nickname.

After the fight, if you could even call it that, Cory let his feet take him wherever. Walking just seemed to clear his mind, but of course, his feet would lead him here, for he knew the way by heart. He would come here in the morning, sometimes in the dead of night, or he would even skip classes just to sit here and think.

This was the only place he could actually sit down and clear his head, even in the Slytherin common room he had to keep on his mask of disdain and be ready to throw anyone a smart comeback. This was his safe place, his lair, his safe haven...

'Oh, Slytherin.' How could he forget? 'If anyone from Slytherin found out he had to have a tutor he would never hear the end of it, and his father and brother would definitely have a word or two to say about it.'

'Of course, perfect Eric would never do anything like his little brother. He is the head boy of Slytherin and future heir to the Summer family fortune, and not to mention a total pain, literally.'

The golden light trickled through the leaves, leaving an intricate design of light on the dirt floor. He stared at it from his place under the tree, until the sunlight was replaced with silver moonlight.
